Vista - Windows Explorer Takes Too Long To Expand Folders

This does not happen every time, but frequently enough to be annoying. I
click on one of the little triangles in the folder tree in the left-hand pane
to expand a folder, and nothing happens; I get the spinning circle icon and
it sits there for a very long time before finally expanding. I've learned
that I can go ahead and drill down in the right-hand pane while this is going
on, but I'd like to turn off whatever new "feature" is causing this. There's
no physical reason this should happen; this is a Dell Precision 690 with 4
gigs of memory and a very fast 10K-rpm hard drive. When the folders do
expand right away, which is most of the time, it is instantaneous. Running
Vista Ultimate x64.

My suggestion is to change the pagefile allocation on your harddrive.
Also you might have a number of programs that run in the background.
Windows Vista comes with Windows defender. From Defender try to
disable some of the programs you don't need starting up.

There is a good tutorial about the pagefile stuff here:

willhandley spewed out this bit, and i'll scatter a few bits myself:

My setup did this same thing, it was caused by my SATA drivers getting
fouled up in some way or another. I suspect because I allowed windows update
to update my nvidia drivers with the one that windows update provides. Look
for "nvstor32 errors" or "nvstor errors" in the event viewer. I reinstall my
SATA drivers with the ones from Nvidia website to clear my problem up.

I would imagine this could also be caused by something using 100% of your
CPU as well. You can check that using the "Task Manager".
