| highlight newly installed programs... Slightly odd problem here. My wife and I each got a new computer. Due to some complications, I formatted and reinstalled Vista from scratch while my wife has her's still as factory standard. All in all, I thought this was great as I was able to get rid of the "extra" apps. that were installed w/ the factory set up, and I have a clean new Vista install. What I have noticed however is that newly installed programs do not seem to hightlight on my machine, but do on her's. An example would be our MS wireless mice. I realize I could just turn off the highlighting (since its not working anyway) and that this is hardly a big problem ... or is it? I'm forced to wonder if - since this is "odd" if nothing else - this is a precursor to a larger problem, a known bug, an enhacement (I have installed all updates & patches and noticed a performance patch was issued by MS the other week which my wife might not have received yet). Any thoughts would be appreciated. So far, the only thing installed are MS Works and the mouse. Neither came up as "new" on my machine, but both did on my wife's. Thank you in advance. | Re: highlight newly installed programs... Hi, Right click the taskbar, choose properties. On the start menu tab, click customize. About halfway down the list is an option to highlight newly installed programs. | Re: highlight newly installed programs... Sorry - should have mentioned (since its the main crux of the problem), it is indeed enabled as it should be by default. I have tried turing it off, and then back on. No change. Any additional thoughts? Thanks. -- __________ Grail "Rick Rogers" wrote: [color=blue] > Hi, > > Right click the taskbar, choose properties. | Re: highlight newly installed programs... Just wanted to thank you guys for replying - I think I figured out my problem. At least how it relates to my system;-) It appears that installing applications *right after* a fresh install of the OS seems to keep them from being considered "new". Wait 24hr's, and everything works fine - new apps. show up as new etc. etc. Thanks again. -- __________ Grail "brink" wrote: [color=blue] > > Grail;426386 Wrote:[color=green] > > Sorry - should have mentioned (since its the main crux of the problem), > > it is > > indeed enabled as it should be by default.
