How about, an analogy isn't needed, just some sense.

I don't think most people would like having to re-purchase/replace s/w to
support a new OS if there is no need for an upgrade and it gets the job
done.

Oh please, show me another OS that won't allow a startup program that the
Administrator has specifically given permission to run at startup.
To make it run at startup requires a workaround using task manager. What a
joke.
And they have the audacity to call it security.
I have not found Vista to be any more stable or secure than any of my 200 XP
machines.
The 50 some old P2s and P3s that W98/ME/NT/W2K were replaced with Linux are
more stable than any Vista machine I have seen.
The graphics aren't as pretty, but they work fine for their purpose.
So just who is the joke on?

We're talking about third-party s/w here that was purchased, not about
internet apps, many of which are free and/or OS intrinsic.

Ex. CAD, CAM, photo/video editing tools, music editing/producing.

Also, the biggest security issue in Windows are/were items produced by MS
themselves...IE and Oulook/Express.

You should have startes that last sentence with, 'In my experience...',
because I, and many others had the exact opposite experience with XP. My
Win98 box was upgraded to XP, about a week after it went gold in 2001. It
had been thru a myriad of hardware upgrades, and ran the gold version
until Aug 2006 (no SP1) when I sufferred a massive hardware event that
took out the power supply and two physical HD's.

Prior to that, XP ran totally smooth and I can't even remember any
lockups.

Since then the only issue I've had was the loss of network connections
during large netwrok file transfers. This was traced back to a bad stick
of RAM that was added. And this didn't even cause a BSOD, just loss of
connectivity.

Since the main reason given for Vista problems is third-party
driver/software related, who's to say that the reason for your XP
problems were not third-party driver/software related also and had
nothing to do with XP itself ?

I have to give you the time tested, tried and true Vista pushers
reasoning for XP, it works *perfectly* on my system, so it must be
something you are doing or incompatible 3rd party drivers/software.

Re: I HATE VISTA

Everyone seems to lose sight of the fact that the only reason any OS exists
is to allow the user to run software on his system. This goes for DOS,
Linux, 95, 98, XP, or Vista. If the OS is so inflexible as to preclude
running any "3RD Party" software, then what earthly good is it?

Whether you use your system for work, gaming, multi-media, or whatever else,
I doubt any version of Windows will do any of the things you want to your
satisfaction. So the user is stuck with using one of the 3RD Party packages
that all of the Vista apologists seem to look down their noses at.

I'll ask again. If Vista can't allow me to use my system for what I need it
for, and XP will, what earthly good is Vista.

Another "intelligent lifeform" heard from. I always find it amazing that
the lower the brain power of the participant in a News Group, the more they
rely on personal attacks instead of logic and facts to make their point.
Thank you so much for proving me right on that one yet again.

Do you have the packaging your machine came in? If so I suggest you pack it
up, take it back to the shop and ask the nice man if he will exchange it for
a Gameboy....seems that's about your level.....
