I may not be using the same DNS server, though, or even any other bellsouth.net DNS server since I never entered what DNS server to use or installed any bellsouth.net software on this machine. I wouldn't be surprised if the DNS server setting on my machine is the default setting for the HP OEM version of Vista. |

| Re: I HATE VISTA Hello, Think about it, when you go through an upgrade which is innovative, the companies are continuously upgrading premium class software to support current innovations. But it seems you want to buy a new computer, new hardware, and keep the existing 5+ year old application which has been discontinued by the company who produced that. If you really want to use your 5+ year old application, stay with Windows XP, install Windows XP, or run a Virtual Machine that has Windows XP. Not everything could run on compatibility mode, the developers should be aware of that. Since you cannot run your application, it is time to buy a new license if you want to run it on Windows Vista. The same applies to anything. Stop saying I hate Vista for a problem which isn't Vista's fault. -- Regards, Mohamed Mansour Microsoft Student Partner "ninkaroo" <ninkaroo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D670A348-7FE1-4796-9366-6467E7CB12E0@microsoft.com... > I agree with you - sadly > > "schafferde" wrote: > >> I don't suppose this will be allowed to stay on here, but I have to vent. >> I >> got Vista with my new Dell computer, and so far, I have had to replace 4 >> programs that don't run on vista, and for which the companies "don't plan >> any >> upgrades in the near future". I can't disagree but I've found that Irvanview will do all the photo editing I need and I suspect that would be true of many people, very few of us will need anything more complex. -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://improve-usenet.org |

That's fine, no argument from me. If it does what you need, then no need to go to any trouble or expense for a more capable program. Nevertheless, I think it's weird to call it a "Photo editing program." -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

| Re: I HATE VISTA Don't get me wrong, it's difficult to upgrade, especially when you don't understand the nuances of industry. And you find yourself unprepared. But I think one should really consider what they are doing by upgrading. To hate Vista is to hate yourself. One doesn't set out to buy a brand new car, by checking for reverse compatibility. As long as it runs on gas (or something cheaper) you are generally happy, right? Making sure your old seats, old headlights, and dash board from the other car will fit in the new car would sound silly, and absurd. I was disappointed when XP came out being so reverse compatible, because I thought it would be a big security risk, and it was. Sometimes reverse compatibility is a bullet we shoot ourselves in the foot with. It took MS, what? Two extra years to release Vista so they could make it more like Apple’s Mac OSX, and like Sun’s Solaris, and like other Linux flavors. They had to make it secure. Which is funny because Gates used to tout NT (the basis of XP, and Vista) as superior to Unix/Linux. And now they mimic it. HOMEWORK: As for the wise consumer, do your homework FIRST. And don’t just read reviews from disgruntled XP loyalists, and hardcore Linux and Apple users. There are many ways to confirm that you are ready. MS did provide the 'Upgrade Advisor app' (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...deadvisor.mspx). I don’t trust it though. What many people don’t realize is you can trial install XP or Vista, for 30 days, no key, no activation; and if you like it, you can buy the “Genuine Advantage Kit for XP” at $149, thru the Windows Update interface before the end of the 30 days. So heck, borrow a friends copy, or download an ISO. (Not their key/license) Vista it will refer you to a site to purchase a license for the edition you’ve tested. (This is to me the most reliable way of obtaining the information you need on compatibility, but if there is trouble it gets rather involved) (And they wouldn’t offer the trial, or the link to purchase a license if they had a problem with you doing this. *I don't endorse piracy, if you like it, buy a license) Also for Vista, there is a '“Virtual Hard Drive” 30 day trial ' (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...laylang=en)you can download, and run on a “virtual” machine, with Virtual PC. (Within your old OS, without any real changes to what you have already.) And finally there is the 'Vista Ultimate Test Drive' (http://www.windowsvistatestdrive.com...2fDefault.aspx). Where you can test out the interface and such online. So don’t complain! There are a bunch of way to determine if your software, and/or hardware are up to snuff, if you didn’t know that is your own fault. -- Ice Cream Man ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ice Cream Man's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?u=51823 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=803506 http://forums.techarena.in |

| Re: I HATE VISTA It is not the parts from the old car but the passengers I would consider in thinking about cars and compatibility. My garage would figure in too.
