How to reset USB port memory?

After connecting a USB phone handset, Vista loaded the driver then
requested a reboot. I then realised that only the USB microphone device
showed up in Control panel/Sound/Recording menu. The USB speaker device
didn't register.

I plugged the handset in an other USB port. Driver loaded, did the
requiered reboot and this time both microphone and speaker are listed in
as USB sound device.

If I return the uSB hanseet to the first USB port, it has memorise the
driver setting and it still recognize only the microphone. How can I rest
the "driver memory" for this USB port. I imagine it's somewhere in the
registry but where ?

Thanks in advance

Re: How to reset USB port memory?

Plug another, different type of device (USB memory stick, etc.) into the
original USB port?

Thanks Cal Bear, I did think of it. I plugged a mouse ... mouse driver
loaded, mouse worked but handset is still remembered as having only a
microphone...

Re: How to reset USB port memory?

Go to Device Manager, find the offending port and delete the driver, reboot
and you should have the USB driver installed, then plug in your device. If
you are going thru a hub, that may be your problem.
