| Internet connection problem Hello. I've seen other posts like this, but no answers that I could use. We have had our internet connection working with a wireless router and two Windows XP machines for a while. We just bought a Windows Vista machine and it can't open web pages. We can ping web sites, and even download updates for Norton and Windows Updates. But when we open a browser to any URL, the "page can't be displayed." I tried it wireless to the router, wired to the router, and straight to the cable modem. Same results. I checked that the LAN settings are on "automatically detect settings." I also updated the firmware on the router to the latest version on the Linksys website. We have comcast cable internet and a Linksys WRT54G router. Any ideas? Thanks. |

What personal firewall are you using? Have you dropped the FW on the computer to see what happens? |

| Re: Internet connection problem Hi, I've recently had a similar problem: the connection was there, pings etc. worked. Strangely I could get email and updates but not Internet (with any browser) or IM. I was using Norton Internet Security 2006. Turning off the firewall made no difference. Turning off the entire suite allowed access. On the Symantec site it recommended turning off the suite then downloading (for free) Internet Security 2007. I did this and bingo! all access again. I guess that an update for Norton (2006) caused the problem. Regards Kevin "brink" wrote: > > cymbalblade;406517 Wrote: > > Hello. | Re: Internet connection problem Yep, Norton Internet Security was the problem. I had attempted to turn off my firewalls, and succeeded at turning off Windows firewall. But every time I tried to open Norton Internet Security it said something like "Can't open this Norton product. Please restart your computer." Somewhere online I found a link to Symantec's removal tool, which removes all Symantec/Norton tools from your computer. Strange that they need to offer such a tool. I used it, Norton Internet Security went away, and now I have internet access. Thanks all. | Re: Internet connection problem I have now got rid of Norton alltogether. The 2007 version really played up - loads of error messages etc. (although at least I had Internet access). After junking it and putting on ZoneAlarm my PC became so much faster! Kev "brink" wrote: > > Cymbalblade and Kevin, > > Glad to hear you are back.
