There is a "Howling" about WGA, WPA, the poor performance of Explorer, the incompatibility issues and the fact that just months after release MOST users are hoping a service pack is soon released that will fix what's broken (Although like XP SP1 it probably won't). |

| Re: First Vista Printer USB or Local? Right. There is a howling about that. But there is no general discontent about printer support. So, why don't you keep it on topic. | Re: First Vista Printer USB or Local? Thanks for stepping in Charlie but there's obviously no help for some people! There are a bunch of hotfixes for various non-existant USB problems at this URL: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;936003 I haven't had time to try them but they probably won't hurt. If anyone has useful suggestions beyond the normal troubleshooting (I've uninstalled everything including the USB ports themselves, tried different cables, etc.) I'd love to know. I have a 'Vista certified' Canon i860 and an Acer Aspire 5610-4648 with Vista Home Premium and all the latest updates. It sees the device when I connect the printer and loads the drivers but does not create any printer instance that I can actually print to. I can manually add a printer and change the port to USB but that doesn't do anything. "Charlie Tame" wrote: > Richard Urban wrote: > > Right. There is a howling about that. Works without installing drivers or any program out of the box. Also works from a networked Vista computer and XP86 computer. Will not work from an XP64 computer. | Re: First Vista Printer USB or Local? I installed Vista 32 bit about 7 months ago - a clean install, not an upgrade. I have been using it with my HP printer without incident. Because of the fuss here, I borrowed my neighbors Canon i860. I turned off the computer and disconnected the HP. I then connected the Canon. Upon booting the computer the printer was identified and resident drivers were installed. A test page was successfully printed. I #####DON"T##### have 20 years experience in IT. | Re: First Vista Printer USB or Local? I forgot to mention that I also installed the Vista add on module for this printer from Canon. It did not improve performance. Just gave a bit more functionality.
