| Trying out Windows Mail as a usenet reader. How to set to bottom post? It defaults to putting the cursor at the top of the post I am replying to. No Microsoft, BAD, bottom post is and always has been considered good netiquette. Is there a way to change it so the curser goes to the bottom of the post instead? |

It encourages the user to go through the post snipping irrelevent parts and 2. It encourages interleaved replies such as this. > No Microsoft, BAD, bottom post is and always has been > considered good netiquette. Good netiquette also requires snipping, see above comments. -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://blinkynet.net/comp/uip5.html |

| Re: Trying out Windows Mail as a usenet reader. How to set to bottom post? Most default to top posting and it is only those who wish to control that say top or bottom posting is good or bad. But if you wish to change it go Tools/Options/Advance Tab and put a tick for bottom reply. -- Ian "Revolt" <not_for@email.invalid> wrote in message news:hbsqi.146439$LL7.119259@fe08.news.easynews.com... > It defaults to putting the cursor at the top of the post I am replying to. > No Microsoft, BAD, bottom post is and always has been considered good > netiquette. The problem with MS newsreaders is that if you top post, the program still uses a delimiter, which should only be used when bottom posting. A delimiter was never intended to remove everything below it, only a signature and a few optional lines below it. 2. Many users only show Unread messages in their newsreaders, rather than threaded view, especially on very active groups such as this one. 3. When someone replies to a top poster that is using an MS newsreader, relevant text below it is removed. Rather than snipping, it takes out EVERYTHING. That is poor programming, especially when there isn't even an option to turn the delimiter off when top posting. I use Thunderbird and if the setting is to top post, no delimiter will be added. That's the proper way to do it. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Delete NOSPAM from the email address after clicking Reply. |

I haven't used a MS newsreader or email client since Windows 3.1 so I may be a bit rusty on them... I can't even remember what Windows 3.1 had for mail and/or news, I don't think they did? I think it was all BBSs in those days? -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://blinkynet.net/comp/uip5.html |

Was before its time. I also think all my "online" usage was through BBS's. Regardless, the delimiter issue with MS newsreaders is a bug that MS needs to fix, and until they do people using them should have their replies bottom posted. -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures are included in my email address. Please move along. Top posting is for noobs. I've been using usenet since long before Microsoft even had an email and usenet reader program . As you can see I still snipped your post even though I have set Mail to bottom post. Tops posters are the ones who are least likely to snip posts. |

People only started top posting when Outlook express came out and they didn't know Microsoft did it wrong. That's about the same time usenet was flooded with AOL "metoo" posts. Were you one of them? |
