photo gallery displays rotated images as vertical lines

Vista's photo gallery displays images that have been rotated by another
program as vertical (or horizontal) lines (actually it shows a width of just
a few pixels).
Other programs (even Microsofts) display the images fine, only photo gallery
seems to have a problem (mis-interpreted exif information?)
Rotating one of these images within Photo Gallery, does not solve the
problem, the veritcal line changes to a horizontal line for a few seconds,
then changes back to a vertical line again.
The only solution i've found so far is using another program to rotate them
90 degrees, then use photo gallery to rotate back to the desired angle.
Anyone experiencing the same problem ?
Is there a fix for this ?

Ron.
