| Adding Adobe Fonts Why doesn't Vista recognize Adobe fonts? I tried to add the adobe Type I and postcript fonts that I had purchased and which worked well in Windows XP--but are not recognized by Windows Vista. When browsing the CD with the fonts, Vista doesn't find any fonts, though WIn XP picked them up and added them on my previous computer. Copy and paste doesn't work either. Any way to add these font? |

| Re: Adding Adobe Fonts Like XP you need to go to Fonts in the Control Panel. If you cannot see menus press the ALT key. In File chose Install Fonts. -- Ian "Don Bouchard" <deebeeX@Xjhu.edu> wrote in message news:842789A7-8608-4EFF-A700-9CBF7A4769CD@microsoft.com... > Why doesn't Vista recognize Adobe fonts? Any way to add these font? When I started using the Vista betas, I had heard that Vista had dropped support for Type 1 fonts. However, some people say that this is not true. This may only be happening with master fonts? You could try installing Adobe Type Manager Lite (free) or update your fonts by buying OpenType versions. ss. |

But Vista absolutely continues to support Type 1 fonts. There seem to be a few wrinkles, but basically it should all just work. Adobe Type Manager is not supported on Vista and apparently doesn't work well. Some good background info here: http://blogs.adobe.com/typblography/2005/10/phasing_out_typ.html Here's Adobe's view of how to install fonts on Vista: http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/fontinstall/instructions_english.html but it sounds like Don Bouchard already tried this, without success. If all else fails, I'd just drag'n'drop the font files from CD-ROM to the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. The Windows Font Installer will kick in automatically. | Re: Adding Adobe Fonts I have migrated fonts from computer to computer since Windows 3.11. I have just looked at the fonts on the computer, there are TrueType, Open Type, Raster, and TrueType Collection (what ever that is) Drag the fonts from the Windows Fonts folder to a USB Flash drive. Insert the USB drive into the Vista computer and drag them to the Windows Fonts folder, they will install. Any way to add these font? This question was asked about a week ago, under the subject line "Adobe Fonts in Vista?". An extract from a response I posted in that thread: ========= PostScript fonts, unlike TrueType ones, aren't conveniently packaged in a single file. A standard commercial PS font from Adobe provides the outline in a .PFB file and the metrics etc in a .PFB file. I've had no problems installing such PostScript fonts under Vista; just click "Install New Font..." on the FILE menu of the FONTS control panel and point the search box to the folder containing the .PFM files (in all kits I've seen, the PFM folder is at the same folder level as the .PFB files). Example, in folder "035" on my font storage disk I have: 035 (folder) +----cr______.inf CR______.PFB pfm (folder) +----CR______.PFM Pointing the "Install New Font..." dialog to the PFM file causes the Carta font to be installed. ========== So...find your .PFM files, then from the Fonts folder select FILE -> Install New Font" and point the system to the folder which contains the .PFM files. The ADD FONTS dialog box should now list the PS fonts by their font (not file) name. AFAIK there isn't any good way to use MM fonts in Vista, and as noted elsewhere in this thread (and on the Adobe web site) traditional PS fonts are deprecated in favor of OpenType. You might want to consider investing in replacement OT fonts and/or a tool to convert your PS fonts to TrueType. Joe Morris |

Any way to add these font? We have installed Adobe Type Manager Deluxe 4.1 using compatibility mode. It works. We use Bitstream Font Navigator v6.0 to manage fonts and we don't have any problems with T1's but the master T1's are a problem. We use font "groups" of around 150-200 fonts each for our work. We have around 40,000 fonts available for use on our server. Frank |
