Hi.

I messed up my system by installing Notebook Hardware Control because I
wanted to measure the temperature.
After I noticed that this program was bad I tried a System Restore but
without luck.
System Restore is not working anymore with none of the restiore points.
Then I tried Complete System Restore with the Vista installation DVD and I
also tried to restore with Ghost but the CD in both cases goes as far as the
Windows loader bar on the black screen and when the loader stops it stays on
a black screen and nothing happens further.
Please help my by telling me how to get the Vista installation DVD working
again.
My DVD drive seems to be fine because it's burning and playing files and all
but it won't boot al the way through from CD or DVD.

Have you tried hitting F8 right as you turn your computer on? Tap it a few
times RIGHT after you power on. Select Safe Mode, and try for a System
Restore when you reach the expanded desktop. Start>All
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

If you want to redo your whole system, disconnect all peripherals except
mouse, monitor and keyboard, and as you start up you will see probably DEL or
F2 to go into Bios, where you can alter your Boot Order to make CD first
boot, or F12 to go into Boot Menu, and make the CD Drive first in the Boot
Order. It will tell you on the bottom of the screen as you are starting.
Insert the DVD as you are doing this, and when computer reboots you can begin
a clean install. Make sure that you delete the partition that the existing
Vista operating system is on. Everything about this is on the DVD, just read
it carefully and logically.

Once the existing partition is deleted, decide whether you want to use ALL
the hard drive, or make a partition. My advice for you, select the whole
drive. Formatt it with the Vista DVD, it will do it for you, and follow
instructions to install. When it comes to putting in ADMIN NAME and PASSWORD,
;leave it blank. Just put your user name in when you are at the end of
installation.

You will have to reactive, but you will be able to do that by phone.

I hope that you realise that by doing the above, you will lose ALL documents
and programs that you have installed since buying the computer.

Hi.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried save mode before but system restore wont work.
The thing ist that thanks god my system is booting fine it just wont boot
from CD or DVD.
I need to restore it because it's heating up a lot.
There are 2x160 GB hard drives on my notebook and on one of them are my
backups but if I cant boot into the vista installation or into ghost I cant
restore from there.
I will try and change the boot order but I cant see that this will help
because if I boot from CD or DVD everything is going fine until after the
windows loader bar.
After that there is only a black screen.
If anybody got another suggestion please let me know.
I'll post back after changing the boot order but as I said I cant see that
this got anything to do with it.

........in addition to my last post.
The boot order didn't change a thing as I thought.
The Vista DVD starts booting right until the Windows loader bar after the
process of copying system files and then black screen.

In my case all the solutions in there execpt the one for manual edit the
boot record wont do any good because my Vista installation DVD wont boot even
thogh the DVD is fine and is working but not on my system anymore it wont.

Not an expected result, so let's back up a bit:
- what problems were you having?
- what led you suspect a temperature issue?
- temperature of what; processor, mobo, display card, HD?
- are you overclocking?
- have you verified RAM, e.g. 24 hours in MemTest86?
- have you verified HD, e.g. HD Tune SMART detail and surface scan?
- have you checked inside the case for bad caps, fans, etc.?

It would help if you explained exactly what you did and exactly what
the results were. My feeling is you're stomping around in a
minefield, and if you haven't yet done so, verify your hardware NOW.

Rewind and re-check the assumptions you are trying to build on.

Most Vista installations work; it is rare to have this mileage.

Most hardware works; it is uncommon for it to be bad.

Once you are in the minority with bad hardware, then failure of OSs to
install is quite a common, if not usual, experience.

Assuming you have a living OS, do this:
- bulk-copy files from CD or DVD to HD:\Dir1
- bulk-copy same files from CD or DVD to HD:\Dir2
- FC HD:\Dir1\*.* HD:\Dir2\*.* -> HD:\Test1.txt
- FC HD:\Dir1\*.* CD:\*.* -> HD:\Test2.txt
- FC HD:\Dir2\*.* CD:\*.* -> HD:\Test3.txt
- replace HD with your HD drive letter in all the above

If those Test?.txt files are not anything but pure "No differences
encounteresd" then there's a hardware (or malware) slip between the
optical drive and the HD. Could be (m)any of:
- bad CD
- bad optical drive
- bad RAM
- flaky hardware a la overclocking
- bad HD
- on-the-fly infection by resident malware

Not a great lens through which to attempt an OS install, hmm?

You have hot hardware.
You have a basically-sound OS file set.
You wish to replace that with one written through too-hot hardware.

As above. I'm sorry if I'm not answering the questions you ask, but
IMHO to so would be like helping a kid who's got both thumbs on the
trigger and is asking "how do you make this thing work?"

Hi again.

Maybe I was unclear.
There was no real heat problem, I just kinda felt that it was more hot than
usual that's why I installed NHC to measure the temperature.
This program wasn't what I expected so uninstalled it.
After that System Restore wasn't working and I couldn't boot from CD or DVD.
My system on the other hand boots fine and is working well except for the
System Restore and CD/DVD boot.
Here are some specs;

Acer Aspire 9525WSMi, 2x160 GB SATA, 2 GB Ram, NVIDiA 512 MB video card.

Raid is not enabled.
The only real problem is that the Vista installation DVD boots only half way
through and same goes for Norton 12 CD.
Vista DVD boots to the point where the installation menu should show but it
stops just before that and stops on a black screen.
Norton Ghost 12 stops at the same point even though both are ok because I
tried them on another PC.
The DVD drive is working fine in every aspect except for the boot process.
Sorry but I tried memtest and after 2 hours I stopped because This was taken
too long and I don't se what the memtest got to do with m the DVD not booting.
By the wy memtest was launched from the bootable CD.
If someone got an idea how I can boot up my Vista DVD would be very much
appreciated.
