On Vista Computer Wakes Up From Sleep and Crashes

I am trying to help a family member that just got a new computer with Vista.
The computer goes to sleep fine, but once they try to wake it and access a
program... it flashes the blue screen of death and then reboots. Looking
around the web and MS KB articles, I see lots of talks about of all sorts of
variations to this problem, but no solutions. Do we need to wait for a
patch for MS or is there something we can do... Help!

Re: On Vista Computer Wakes Up From Sleep and Crashes

You did not say if it is a laptop or desktop. In either go to The
Start/Control Panel and set to Classic View on the left. Then click the
Power icon and look at the various options for settings and power saving
there.

If a Laptop it probably has A hibernation key on it so read the manual for
guidence.

Re: On Vista Computer Wakes Up From Sleep and Crashes

Dear Friends.

I am facing the same problem than you. I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1501
with Windows Vista. Once you make the system go to sleep or "hibernar", there
is no problem. When you try to wake up the system, then you have a serious
problem: the screen blinks or flashes no ending and you have to push the
power buttom until it shut down.

It's amazing this problem. I have been looking for a solution but I didn't
find anything helpful. Please, if you know how to fix the problem, please let
me know.

Thanks in advance.

Re: On Vista Computer Wakes Up From Sleep and Crashes

I had Vista sleep problems, but it is now resolved. What helped me
investigate the problem was realizing that, at one time, my system sleep
functioned normally, and then stopped working. I was able to pin down the
time period when it stopped working by reviewing the Event Viewer/Windows
Logs/System. Times when the system goes to sleep are signalled by an entry
that looks like: "Information 7/10/2007 10:29:24 AM Kernel-Power"; times
when the system resumes from sleep show this entry: "Information 7/10/2007
1:19:35 PM Power-Troubleshooter".
My logs go back to when I bought the computer in May, so I could verify when
the problem started. Perhaps an initial question for you is: has your
computer always had this problem or did it work ok at one time? Take a look
through your Event Viewer and see if it has ever worked, then see if you can
pin down when it may have changed.

In my case, I had inadvertently tried to install a piece of non-Vista-ready
software, which left artifacts that caused my sleep problems. After I
cleared that up, sleep became functional again. Hope this helps.
