| Document folder not showing names in icon views In my document folder: If I use "Small Icons", "Medium Icons", "Large Icons" or "Extra Large Icons" there are no names under the icons for files and directories. I can see the names if I use "Tiles", "Details" or "List". Strange... Does anybody know of a fix to this? To increase the confusion if I navigate to the document folder through "Computer" then "C drive", "Users", name, "Documents" it works. I have no clue what so ever of what is going on. If you have some good advice I would appreciate it. Cheers Klaus |

| Re: Document folder not showing names in icon views The Documents folder might be using a Pictures and Videos template. Open the Documents folder. Right-click on an empty spot in the window, and choose "Customize this folder...". On the Customization tab, choose "Documents", under "What kind of folder do you want?" (Apply. OK). By the way, the "Hide File Names" choice is only available in a folder using the Pictures and Videos template. | Re: Document folder not showing names in icon views Klaus If the folder is customized for Pictures and Videos, you may see this behavior. Right click the folder and select Properties/Customize Tab. In the Template drop down menu, select All Items. If you select the Pictures and Videos in that drop down menu, you can right click inside the folder and select View/Hide File Names in the menu. The Documents folder in the other location is set properly, this is why the names appear there. -- Ronnie Vernon Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Klaus" <Klaus@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6E0FDF9C-27FC-4E66-AA64-5FF0FAFA9852@microsoft.com...[color=blue] > In my document folder: > If I use "Small Icons", "Medium Icons", "Large Icons" or "Extra Large > Icons" > there are no names under the icons for files and directories. | Re: Document folder not showing names in icon views In Vista, you can choose to hide file names in a folder using the Pictures and Videos template, if the files are set to show one of the icon views. Otherwise the option is grayed out (right-clicking on an empty spot in the folder choosing View > Hide File Names). Of course, the OP may not have chosen this, but that's another issue. | RE: Document folder not showing names in icon views Thanks for the help everybody. Actually the customization already was set to "Documents" and I had previously tried to change to "All Items". The key was your remarks about "Pictures and Video" and the option there to Hide Filenames. I change the document folder to using "Picture and Video" template. Unchecked the option to hide filenames, and changed the template back to "Document". It works perfectly now. Thanks again dean-dean, Frank and Ronnie. Cheers Klaus |
