Perhaps ... but what the site arguably does well is tout software. :)

Trying those tweaks initially upon my first exposure to Vista made little,
if any, difference in its performance ... resulting in undoing most of the
"tweaks".

Based on that experience I would have to say that the benefits of the
"tweaks" are more than likely system dependent, not necessarily gospel, and
YMMV.

I am *not* a guru, but whoever prepared that list of
recommendations knows even less than I do. Some suggestions are
just plain wrong, and a couple may lead to serious problems. The
major recommendation on that page is to spend money with the
advertiser, and if the list is evidence of the advertiser's
skill, that money might be wasted.

Mr. Yardley - are you being paid per click or per dollar spent?

Bad Site - Wrong suggestions

I thought it was suspicious when under the
2. Turn off Remote Differential Compression

section, there is a link and an advertisement for a product. Anyway turning
off UAC and defender isn't the best idea. Chalk this up to a paid
advertisement.

I partially disagree
I don't really use the indexing much (I'm a bit anal about where I put
things, so I know hwere they are on the disk). I turned it off and
there 'seems' to be an increase.
I also turned off system restore and got about 10GM back on my laptop.
I back up once a week so I am not taking too much of a chance (I'm
really asking for it).
Defender and UAC I can't bring myself to shut off though.
P.S. The most noticable system performace increase in Vista remains
turning of 'highlight recently installed items' from the start menue.

I'll give the article 4 out of 10 for effort. Might get a performance gain
with points 3,4,9,10 - the others not a alot, if any.
