| Apparent Incompatibility between Windows Vista and AOL VR 9 We have a Dell laptop which came with Vista Premium Home installed at the factory. AOL VR was also installed by Dell at the factory. When logging onto AOL we do not get the welcome screen. We do get e-mail, but we cannot access any web sites either from the browser bar or via links that come in e-mail. By accessing the internet via Internet Explorer we are able to connect to web sites and we also have full access to AOL via Internet Explorer. In troubleshooting we contacted Dell and spent some hours working with their technical staff trying to determine if there was an issue with the computer. No problems were found. Dell suggested we contact AOL. We then tried to gain technical support from AOL, but were once again frustrated. Finally, we uninstalled AOL and then by going through Internet Explorer we downloaded the product again. We were still unable to get it to work. We have visited the Microsoft Download Center in search of an update or patch that would make the programs play well together. One download looked promising, but when we tried to download it to our computer we were rejected with a note saying that the update was not for our system. Does anyone out there know of this issue and have a solution? Thank you. -- Frank |

| Re: Apparent Incompatibility between Windows Vista and AOL VR 9 Why would you want to use AO-HELL? I use to help clients with AO-HELL and it caused nothing but problems and really is a layer on top of your OS to guide you through their network. You can browse, but in their browser, which is inferior to IE, Foxfire, Mozilla, etc.... Is there something that you guys require to use AO-HELL? With regular network connectivity, you can browse with IE, connect through your DSL or router connections just fine without that layer that slows you down. Unless there is a compelling reason to stay with AO-HELL, I would dump it faster than Cheap on a Suit. | Re: Apparent Incompatibility between Windows Vista and AOL VR 9 The solution is, as it has been for 10 years - Don't Use AOHELL There is **nothing** they have that you can't do with Internet Explorer, Firefox etc. - except crap up your computer. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) "Frank" <Frank@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CE932C46-D52D-4BB8-A30E-D04A09DC2839@microsoft.com...[color=blue] > We have a Dell laptop which came with Vista Premium Home installed at the > factory. | Re: Apparent Incompatibility between Windows Vista and AOL VR 9 A few years ago an AOL solicitor called my house and asked if I would like to try the latest version of AOL for free. I told him that I had already tried to install their software but my antivirus program would not allow it. There was a 5 second pause on the phone, at which point I hung-up. ------------------ Iraqi Bingo B-52..F-16..A-10.. | RE: Apparent Incompatibility between Windows Vista and AOL VR 9 I have exactly the same problem and have spent hours folllowing suggestions from Aol help such as disabling phishing filters and firewalls. No luck at all. The comments from those people questioning our wanting to use Aol are totally unhelpful. I am 71 years old and have used Aol for some years so I am a bit set in my ways.Surely there must be Aol customers who have not had this problem and surely Aol knows about it though they deny it when I ask. -- Need all the help I can get "Mary" wrote: [color=blue] > Hey Frank, let me know if you've found a solution because I'm having the same > problem.
