If I recall the option for this is set on the motherboard by changing the
necessary switches. If it has worked with XP then it is already set so
shouldn't need resetting. I'm not sure whether it would work with Vista,
though.
The PC I had 5 years ago had the same option as yours, but the PC I'm using
now, which is 2 years old doesn't have that feature.

Hi, Bob.

That startup option is probably in the computer's BIOS, not in Windows,
since it has to be available before Windows or Vista even starts to load.
Such an option might not even be available on your new hardware.

Or it may be a failure to communicate between your keyboard and your CPU.
My computer used to start from power off when I pressed Ctrl+F1. But then I
got a new Bluetooth wireless keyboard; it can't startup the computer until
Bluetooth is running, and Bluetooth can't run until Windows is loaded.
Chicken and egg problem, also known as Catch-22! :>(

What make and model is your computer? Perhaps someone here will recognize
it and know what to tell you. Otherwise, I guess you'll just have to RTFM.

I'm running Vista Home Premium on a machine built around an Albatron mb
and there's an option in the BIOS for this. My machine puts itself to
sleep each night and I just hit CTRL/F12 in the morning to light it up
again. The key combo is selectable. Hope this helps.

That's a BIOS setting, but it won't work with a USB or Wireless keyboard.
( at least on my machine )

Logically I would agree, but in my bios there's also an option to enable
a USB keyboard, which I use. So it can be done, but, as always, YMMV.

Thanks for your trouble replying. Sorry for the delay with my reply but
time differences can be a pain sometimes. I shall look into BIOS when I
have a little time to spare, I suppose it was only laziness really or as
