| Problem with Outlook Can anyone help I'm using Windows Vista but with an XP version of Office. When I open Outlook I get an error message: Sending and Receiving reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR a password MUST be entered' At the same time I get a window asking me to enter my password every time - the password box is empty even though I have tried to save it previously. I have gone into the email account settings and tried to save the password there but it doesn't save it. So each time i have to enter my password, close the error box and then hit send/receive again. This is really annoying. Does anyone know what is wrong. Would I be better using Windows Mail and if so how do I make this my default email system and change my settings over. Simple steps please - I'm not IT literate. Kat |

| Re: Problem with Outlook Hi, Kat. I've never used Outlook much, although I've had it installed for several years. In Outlook 2007, I would click Tools | Account Settings... and use the Repair or Change button to be sure that my password is correct. But I much prefer Windows Mail (soon to be succeeded by Windows Live Mail, which is now in beta, and is what I'm using). WM (and WLM) is a better fit for the way that I used email and newsgroups; "Your Mileage May Vary", of course! The simplest way to start using WM is just to click here: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.general That one click should (unless blocked by something like a corporate firewall): 1. Start WM, if it is not already running. 2. Create an account for the Microsoft Public News Server, which is free and does not require you to log on. 3. Find this m.p.w.vista.general newsgroup and download the 300 newest messages. 4. Show the the newest message so that you can read it. In other words, it should bring you right back here to this Discussion in Microsoft Communities, showing the same messages, but with a different look and feel. After reading some messages, you can click Tools | Options and customize the interface to suit yourself. Try it for a few days and see if you like it better than whatever you've been using. To use WM for email, click Tools | Accounts... | Add..., and create your Email Account, inputting your mail servers (incoming and outgoing), username and password into the Servers tab. Try it for a few days and see if you like it better than whatever you've been using. RC -- R. C. | Re: Problem with Outlook Hi-- I don't see Kat's OP, although I've done everything to download all latest messages, including hit Send/Receive several times which seems to happen on this group often. However, her problem is that Vista does not fully support the password on Outlook XP. See: www.slipstick.com CH "R. C. | Re: Problem with Outlook Kat-- This problem has to do with Vista's non support of the password using Office XP. See: www.slipstream.com To get password support, you're going to have to use at least Office 2003 or Office 2007 with Outlook or Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007. | Re: Problem with Outlook Hi, Chad. Thanks! I didn't know that. As I said, I prefer OE/WM/WLM and have not used Outlook very much. From your later Reply, it looks like you did get the OP, finally. You ARE subscribing directly to the MS server, I assume. RC -- R. C. | Re: Problem with Outlook I have the same problem as Kat - same error messages etc. I have a new laptop using Vista and tried to set up Outlook 2003 to access my Yahoo (UK) mail. I have done this successfully on my other machine which uses XP so I know I am setting it all up correctly. I checked for updates yesterday and it downloaded Office SP2 and various other updates/patches. Any suggestions?
