Problem installing Synpatics drivers

I am having a problem installing Vista Synaptics drivers on my IBM ThinkPad
Z60m. At the end of the driver install, I receive the message that the
Synaptics (HidUsb) driver installed successfully, but the Synaptics (SynTP)
driver install failed.

My touchpad still works, but I can not get scrolling and other additional
functions. Any suggestions on how to get this driver to install? I disabled
Virus scan when I did the install, and this did not solve the problem.

Thanks,
-Rick M

Re: Problem installing Synpatics drivers

first question would be do you have the proper drivers for the os and computer model you are trying to install for.

make sure you have not turned UAC off.

Re: Problem installing Synpatics drivers

Yes, I have the proper drivers from Lenovo. I tried doing the install with
UAC off first and then with it on. No change.

Re: Problem installing Synpatics drivers

Synaptics provides a "Generic" driver that you might want to try.
Usually, this is a more recent variety than the ones from the OEM.
I'd uninstall the existing driver/support software prior to trying the
Synaptics version:
