Shut Down button refuses to be configured to SHUT DOWN !!

I've got a new Dell Dimension with AMD 3600 processor and Vista Home Premium.

My question is.. the power button does not shut down the PC. Instead, it
goes into hibernate mode. I've gone into Control Panel - Power Options (as
administrator) and made sure over and over again that its set to shut down
and still it does not shut down. What happens is when I mouse over my cursor
on the power button, the tool tip comes up and shows the text which says
'Saves your session and puts your computer in a low power state so you can
quickly resume working' ..which is the text for hibernate mode. I've tried
clicking on the button anyway and it does go into hibernate instead of shut
down.

The little shut down menu with the 'Shut Down' does work though but that is
besides the point. I'd like to be able to shut down the PC by clicking on the
power button. Any ideas anyone??? HELP !!!

Re: Shut Down button refuses to be configured to SHUT DOWN !!

Dell XPS 410, Vista Home Premium
At Power options, (change plan settings for the current active plan) Power
buttons and lid, Start menu power button, select shutdown works for me!
Color of start menu button changes and mouse over says will Close all
programs, shut down windows and turn off.

I know this doesn't explain your problem but it does work for a least some
systems.

Michael

Try Help & Support. Search for Power Button, you will see the many options
that are possible.

That's exactly what I tried. It used to work until I had to reformat the PC
and reinstall Vista. I used the Dell recovery disc and all and have already
updated my PC with all current patches for Vista, MS Office, as well as other
hardware drivers, etc.

Hi Michael.

Yup! You're absolutely right. Took me awhile to find it, but I found what
you're talking about and set it. It works excellently now.

THANK YOU !!!!
