| What happened to my battery indicator? Vista Home Premium, Dell laptop Booted this morning, and my battery indicator is missing from the task bar. I went to taskbar properties, Notification Area, etc. and the POWER is grayed out. Plugging in power makes no difference, though the unit sees the power (screen brightens). ?? |

I just noticed the same thing on my desktop machine, except that the Network option also is disabled -- and I'm logged in as an administrator (albeit as one of Vista's new sub-administrators)! However, when I logged off of my current account and logged in as the system's "super" administrator (usually named "Administrator" on most installations), the Network option was enabled, but the Power option still was disabled. But I've been tweaking this system for quite a while now, and who knows what seemingly unrelated setting change I made had the unintended consequence of disabling those items? Try logging in as "Administrator" on your machine to see if that makes a difference. -- David Dickinson eveningstar at die-spammer-die dash mvps dot org Please reply only to the newsgroup, not by email. |

Rebooted, still no POWER option. The Mobility Center still shows battery performance, though. |

I've re-examined all of my tweaks, check all the security settings, and yelled at it. It's entirely possible that I've missed another checkbox buried deep in Control Panel somewhere, but if so, it's hard to find. -- David Dickinson eveningstar at die-spammer-die dash mvps dot org Please reply only to the newsgroup, not by email. |
