I installed nero on a vista home premium x64 machine and got a registry
permissions error. I followed the instructions on the nero site but must
have done something wrong because the ahead software group is locked and I
can't look at it even though the account is an administrator. It says I
can't look at the permissions but can change them, but that ultimately does
nothing. It was using the default user account with administrator
privileges.

Can't delete the program because the entry is locked. Is there any way to
fix this?

I can get more details if it would help but am not near the pc at this
point.

I'm wary of system restore but if that's the only thing that could help,
I'll try it.

work on every build of Vista including the latest update to 7.

A word about system restore. Stop worrying about it; don't worry be
happy--what else could you do with a name like Rev. Veg Lasangn[e]. System
restore is architected differently in Vista but the end result is pretty
much the same. SR isn't going to lose anything or change anything with the
exception of shortcuts and updates since the restore point. It can be a
great help and a saves a lot of people in trouble. Don't hesitate to use it
if you think you have an applicable situation and need it.

OK... it had me go into regedt32 and go to current_user/software/ahead
and make some changes to the permissions. I followed the instructions,
but when I finished, it wouldn't let me change or even look at the
permissions anymore for that key. I tried uninstalling Nero but it
failed because that registry entry was now locked because of the
changes.

The change involved changing the inheritance checkbox, which then left
no users allowed to do anything to that key..

Thanks. I'll try both. First time I've ever had a problem with a
registry edit.

Hi Rev,

I too had problems with Nero running on Business 64bit. I had the latest
version of Nero and even though it worked on XP 64 it would install on
Business 64 but not run. I tried to uninstall it but that didn't happen
either as it would get to about 90% done then I would get error messages.
Ahead have an 64 bit update (approx 180 meg ) that you can download and
install but that didn't work either. I sent heaps of messages to Ahead, but
am still waiting on replies.
I had been running XP and Vista dual boot and decided to just run Vista.
After doing a clean install of Vista I then re installed the Nero 64 bit
update and it installed and worked. It shows up as a demo, but if you change
the serail number it comes with to the serial number you have on your product
it switches to a full version.
I haven't had any trouble with it since the re install, but if you chose not
to do a clean Vista install to solve this problem can I suggest the AShampoo
64 bit version as it works quite well.

Permissions that I had you alter are not for a "key" but for a folder. If
you need to take permissions of a registry key that's a different thing. If
UAC is in the way, temporarily disable it to get your box right with Nero.

it was a pre-setup hp system with no cd's. rebuilding isn't in the cards at
this point. If I can't fix it I'll just have the guy use Roxio instead. But
I'd like to clean it up anyway.

The message that came up when the ownership problem wouldn't let the
program start linked to a web page from Nero that gave instructions to
fix the problem. Can't find it now through searching though.
