| unexpected shutdown For some odd reason my comp likes to shut down by it self and for no apparent reason. I'll just be surfing the web, looking at pics or watching videos in either iTunes or media player and it just restarts without warning. The screen goes blue and thats it. Can't figure out why. It also does it when the screen saver is going or if live one care is going too. Also my live one care just stops working too for no apparent reason. I've done some searching and found a couple of people that seem to have the same problem. Anyone know why this happens |

Then you can research the Stop Error here: http://www.aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm Since Vista is so new, there may not be Stop Error articles dealing specifically with that operating system but you may be able to get a clue from them as to what's wrong. To disable the automatic restart, Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings [OK the UAC prompt]. Then click on the Start Up and Recovery Settings button and uncheck "Automatically Restart". In general, random sudden failures can be caused by bad hardware (RAM particularly) and/or overheating, but there have been reports of the behavior in Vista being related to flaky drivers. So do make sure that all your drivers are the most current ones. Get drivers from: 1. The device mftr.'s website; OR 2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR 3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.). Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the drivers. To find out what hardware is in your computer: 1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer. 2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway) 3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc Advisor. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html - Belarc Advisor (Note: I haven't tried Belarc on Vista so YMMV.) | RE: unexpected shutdown I have had the same issue. I have had the blue screen with some words, then it changes to a black and white screen with the option to restart in Normal mode or safe mode. -- Joel G "J-Bizzle" wrote: > For some odd reason my comp likes to shut down by it self and for no apparent > reason.
