| good news for xp, vista and linux users! The new KDE 4.0 scheduled to be released on October 2007 will run natively on windows... this means that you can replace all the xp or vista shell interface and load KDE on windows! (also on MACOSX) the look and feeling will be linux, yet the applications will be the windows ones! This is the only major alternative shell that has been offered for windows... and I have seen some of the things they are working on on KDE 4.... since there has been an alpha release... interesting... You could also switch to what interface you want.. much like linux can run with gnome or KDE Linux users were afraid of this step... perhaps fearing that it will harm linux.. on the contrary ... if people start using kde on windows, it will be a snap for them to switch to linux.... It will be free and it will be an alternative shell.. its good giving people a choice... the new vista interface- GUI stinks big time anyway |

| Re: good news for xp, vista and linux users! A gui matters 100%. It can accelarate or reduce productivity. KDE has become very good... Also pelase send an email to microsoft informing them that the gui doesnt matter since they want to make 3d glass effects, animated desktops, and flip 3d effects... I really dont care about the above.. those are a plus. What is bad about vista is the stupid start menu and various other changes they made to the gui like hidding the menus, removing toolbars and rearranging commands in a very stupid way. Vista GUI sucks big time. | Re: good news for xp, vista and linux users! The start menu can be set to classic form.. as long as the GUI gets access to programs, it doesn't really matter.. for the record, I always use classic start menu in Vista and XP.. the look of a gui is subjective anyway.. You and other Vista fanboys can bitch and moan all you want and everybody is suppose to sit on their hands and listen quietly. Anybody with a different, often far more objective opinion on how Vista works or doesn't according to you is suppose to shut up and never say anything. Geez, Frank, thanks for sharing your narrow minded bigotries! |

| Re: good news for xp, vista and linux users! I like the XP start menu better, The look is subjective... the mechanism of the menu is not. It is not compatible to the way the human brain functions. Also hidding important menus and making toolbars that cannot be customized, is a horrible idea because its less functional. Again this has nothing to do with looks, and is not a matter of "opinion" "Mike Hall MVP" <mikehall@mvps.org> wrote in message news:eb9cs5VoHHA.1476@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl...[color=blue] > The start menu can be set to classic form.. as long as the GUI gets access > to programs, it doesn't really matter.. for the record, I always use > classic start menu in Vista and XP.. the look of a gui is subjective > anyway.. > > "Tiberius" <James@tiberius.kirk> wrote in message > news:Ory#jLVoHHA.3660@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl...[color=green] >>A gui matters 100%. >> >> It can accelarate or reduce productivity. I like the start menu in Vista much better than either XP's or the classic menu. The integrated search function is great. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

Many of the programs I used in XP run in Vista. All the legacy hardware works as well. I certainly know not all hardware and software is compatible, but saying it's "compatible with nothing" is a gross exaggeration. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
