and bought a brand new version of "Business" tried to enter that product key
but Microsoft wont take it. Shall I re-install Business from the new disc?

Call MS about your product key and your difficulties, they will help you.

Secondly, is the computer Vista compatible? Did you run the Vista compatibly
tool under XP to check the computer?

IMHO, you should back up your data, take the Upgrade DVD, boot from the DVD
and wipe out XP laying down Vista fresh.

Is existing software you have compatible with Vista?
