Desktop Icons

I put a shortcut to my DSL connection on my desktop so that I could quickly
launch a connection. I had no problems.

Somehow the default icon has vanished and all I am getting is the 'vanilla'
icon Vista displays then there is no valid association.

The shortcut still works but I would like to get original icon restored.

The attachment is a 'snip' of the icon I have.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Re: Desktop Icons

How was the shortcut created? By you, or a program? You might have to
create it again, and then right-click on the shortcut, choose Properties,
then click on the Change Icon button. Take note of what file has the icon
(and its location), and then Cancel. The next time it changes to a generic
icon, you will know where to find it, using Change Icon...

As to why it changed, sometimes Vista "forgets", and the icon for the
shortcut becomes generic. Too, the source file for the icon may been moved
or deleted, making the icon's path invalid.

Re: Desktop Icons

I initially created the shortcut by dragging it out of Control
Panel|Network Connections and dropping it on the desktop.

I tried the Change Icon route but I got the default Shell32.dll stock of
icons.

I think I need (but can't find) the dll or exe file that holds the icons for
Network connections.

Thanks

Re: Desktop Icons

Can you right-click on the shortcut, and choose "Open file location"? If
so, in the window that pops up, can you then right-click the file it points
to (selects) and choose "Create Shortcut"? You could then delete the old
Broadband Connection shortcut, and rename the new Broadband Connection(2)
shortcut to Broadband Connection.

Correction: It should be "%windir%\system32\netshell.dll"
