| question about Vista Business I bought XP Pro which came with a free Vista offer, I just got the Vista and it's the Business Vista. How does that compare to XP Pro, are the bugs pretty much fixed or should I wait to install Vista ? How will I benifit from using Vista over XP Pro ? Thanks |

If it were my business I would be looking at next year as the earliest to even consider an unenforced upgrade. > How will I benifit from using Vista over XP Pro ? If XP Pro is fulfilling you current and short to mid-term needs and you're not in a position to do a clean install.. not much. For mission critical systems stick with what you know works. Let other people test Vista alap. |

| Re: question about Vista Business Hi, >I bought XP Pro which came with a free Vista offer, I just got the Vista >and it's the Business Vista. The nice thing about the systems that came with the free Vista upgrades is that they generally also included a disk that updated the drivers and programs for the system so that it is fully Vista compatible. > How does that compare to XP Pro, are the bugs pretty much fixed or should > I wait to install Vista ? The bugs in XP still aren't fixed, or for that matter in Win2000 or Win98. If you are going to wait until an OS is perfected, you may never get around to installing one. As yours was prepared for Vista, I would just go ahead and install it. > How will I benifit from using Vista over XP Pro ? Compatibility with newer software releases, and a system that will be fully supported by Microsoft for at least the next 5 years (XP's mainstream support ends in 2009, Visa Business in 2012), and likely extended well beyond that. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Just Me" <no@isp.com> wrote in message news:O6Kv83EnHHA.4412@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > > > Thanks > > > |

| Re: question about Vista Business Before attempting the upgrade, run the Vista Upgrade Advisor.. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx This will give you a pretty good idea of what will or will not work. It may not be 100% but is a very good start. Print the results and take a good look. If there is anything mission critical in the report that may not work, look at the reasons given. Bear in mind that some older programs and hardware are NEVER going to work with Vista because the originators have no intention of supplying the necessary patches, drivers etc If you can live with what is/isn't going to work, or have made the decision to purchase new versions/hardware if required, ensure that you have the means to recover back to where you are today. Upgrading can go wrong and backing up is important, especially when major changes to the system are being implemented. Vista can work very well as it is, but not for everybody. There are bugs in Vista that may or may not affect you. It is still much of a lottery. As long as you have the means to recover to XP and can get all of your data back, I would suggest that you go ahead with the upgrade. | Re: question about Vista Business HI Just Me, Everyones suggestions are good and you will do what you feel is best after reading the reference material supplied by the other writers. On a personal note, I am using Vista Business 64bit ( which I think you would have recieved ) and I have found it to be great. With the new interface and new changes it is a bit of a learning curve but then again so are all new O/S's If you have a second hard drive maybe you can install it under the dualboot system and do the old suck it and see. | Re: question about Vista Business Bob, that is a good idea and I had thought about it but then didn't think about it again. I do have other hard drives that I could install Vista on. I'll do a Goggle on Vista dual boots and see if there are some good "how to's " on installing a dual boot. | Re: question about Vista Business Hi Just me, Glad to help, but have another suggestion instead of searching Google. If you restart your machine with Vista in the drive you will be given a choice of doing a custom installation where you will be able to select which drive you want it installed on so just pick the drive you want ( make sure it isn't the XP drive ) and away you go. After installing Vista when you boot up you will be given the choice whether you want to boot into XP or Vista.
