| XP and Vista Dual Boot - How To Remove Vista I want to experiment with Vista on my XP (current C: drive) computer. I am using Acronis to make a partition for Vista. After experimenting with Vista I want to be able to delete either the XP or Vista drive. If I elect to get rid of XP, how do I do that so Vista becomes the default drive on C:? My understanding is that the Vista boot manager (BCD) will record the presence of 2 OS’s (Vista and XP) and will take over boot operations from the XP boot manager. and that whichever drive I boot to- Vista or XP- will see itself as C: and the other as D:. How do I delete the XP partition and format it for use within Vista? When I do delete XP, my understanding is that the Vista boot manager will still give the option of booting to an unbootable and not present XP volume. How do I use BCDedit to fix this issue? Hope I am clear. Many thanks in advance |

Earlier versions were not Vista-aware, and will cause you trouble. The Acronis website will let you update to the latest for free. | Re: XP and Vista Dual Boot - How To Remove Vista Yes, I am using Acronis 10.0. Yes, I am using Acronis 10.0. which I believe is the latest. What commands do I use in vista Boot Pro. Don't know the program. Again, thanks in advance. J. "Don" wrote: > jcoane wrote: > > I want to experiment with Vista on my XP (current C: drive) computer. > What commands do I use in vista Boot Pro. Don't know the program. There is an icon for Manage OS Entries which will let you delete the entry for Older Versions of Windows. Very easy. |

| Re: XP and Vista Dual Boot - How To Remove Vista Installing Vista as the second o/s will do as you suspect...replace XP's boot process with Vista's boot loader. It will also place the bootloader on the XP drive. Some would suggest that if you choose to do away with XP, wipe both drives, create one or additional partitions and clean install Vista. All this can be done with the full version Vista cd.
