| Drag and drop corrupts database I have created an Access database using Access 2007. The database is created in Access 2000 format. I then save the database on my Vista x64 in Documents folder. I then drag and drop using Windows Explorer on Vista to a Network share on XP pro machine. The data base ends up being corrupted with the following error. " ... could not find the object MSysDb." Other errors are seen as well. What ever the error the database is corrupted. I can not open with Access 2003 on XP Pro or using Access 2007 on Vista. However, if I perfrom a Save As to an Access 2000 format on the network share the database opens fine from both computers. If the copy remains on the Vista computer all is fine. What is the drag drop copy doing to the database? I have a work around for now, but I am concerned that I may not always be able to perform a "Save as" to a network share for every database, as I administer various remote customers. What other products are affected by the drag and drop? Is Vista performing some kind of conversion when it does a drag and drop copy? Can I turn this off? Is this a Vista x64 problem only? -- Don Becker PCIS |

| Re: Drag and drop corrupts database Hi Don-- There are MSFT Access Newsgroups available. You can search for them on the web site for MSFT groups or if you're doing this the much better way via Win Mail, just rt. click the toolbar>customize>add newsgroups and search for Access. I answer a lot of Office questions as do others on these groups, but I want you to get the best possible expertise and I don't use Access regularly. The access groups are full of Access MVPs and other very good experts. | Re: Drag and drop corrupts database I have checked the Office and Access newsgroups and found nothing regarding Vista causing data corruption. I believe that this is a Windows Vista Question as it is corrupting the file when I perform a Drag and drop copy using Windows Explorer. When I use Total Commander to copy the file there is not a problem. It is not an Access problem by itself. Windows Explorer is corrupting the file. Does Windows Explorer perform some kind of conversion when Office 2007 is installed. -- Don Becker PCIS "Chad Harris" wrote: [color=blue] > Hi Don-- > > There are MSFT Access Newsgroups available.
