POST problem. (repost)

Hi y'all,

When I reboot from Vista, during the POST it takes about two minuts
before the secondary master (=DVD rewriter) is detected. When I reboot
from XP or shutdown completely and reboot there's no problems.
This has been occuring ever since 5342 and in every following build.

I've posted this once before, but never got the problem solved.
I was hoping that installing RTM (clean) would solve this, I've
updated the BIOS to the latest version and flashed the firmware for
the rewriter but got no joy. I even changed the IDE flatcable and
swapped between IDE connectors with no result.

Specs:
775dual880 pro motherboard (AsRock)
1 gig (2x 512)of dual channel RAM
2x IDE HD (primary master and slave)
1X IDE DVD NEC 5200 (secondary master)
Vista RTM Home Premium.
XP Home Edition.

Any ideas anyone?

Re: POST problem. (repost)

Have you tried disconnecting the DVD drive and seeing how the box boots with
that drive disconnected?

Lang Murphy laid this down on his screen :

Hi,
It boots fine with the DVD disconnected.

Re: POST problem. (repost)

Chad Harris was thinking very hard :

Hi Chad,
I've tried the automatic and the CD/DVD setting with no result.
What gets me is that only a reboot causes this behavior. A normal
startup causes no problems even directly after a shutdown.
A reboot from XP runs normally aswell.
Leaves me to think that, on a restart, Vista somehow doesn't
'disconnect' from the DVD writer.
I went through all the logs in both XP and Vista, but I can't see
anything relating to IDE devices.
I think I'll give up on this one, I'll try another flatcable again
and try my daughters CD rewriter for good measure.
Thanks for your time,

Myranda.
