Vista & XP on same network

Hello
I have 2 computers on a workgroup. One is XP and the other is vista Bussness.
On the XP I can see and access the vista with no sign on. On the Vista I can
see the XP but when I try to access it, it asks to sign on bUt when I try to
sign on it gives me logon error. I have only 2 usernames ( my name and
Administrator) and 1 password. No matter how I try its the same logon error.
I even try to make a VPN connection ( I made sure the vpn was on in the
firewall).
Can any one help me.

Re: Vista & XP on same network

Thomas,
I am most likely wrong or somebody is surely going to jump in there and tell
me I am wrong, but I have my laptop with XP, and my desktop with Vista
Premium, and I am only able to view the files that I have specifically
marked as Shared on the security tab of folder properties, on my laptop. To
get it to work, I had to run the network setup tool in Vista, and I had to
enter the network code no. that the Vista program established as an
identifying mark for the laptop, on the control panel of the laptop,
networks, map network, and enter the code no. as the URL. example http://
your-123456789. As long as both computer are turned on, it seems to work ok,
but there are allot of compatibility issue's with Vista, so some folders
with specific files will not appear.
You might check out the Lynksys homepage for a network tool, and help
index that could assist you http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php, bottom
right corner of the page is a tutorial link that may answer your question.
Of course you can always get your credit card and call Microsoft. :)
Sarcasm> my best feature. Of course based on your email address you know
more about computers than I do, in fact this is my first computer, well I
had a gameboy once, does that count?

Make sure they both have the same WORKGROUP Name as XP defaults to a
different one from Vista.

Also check Vista Firewall is allowing Network shares.

RE: Vista & XP on same network

In XP default workgroup name is: MSHOME; in Vista it is: WORKGROUP. Make sure
that you change them to the same name.
XP used "Shared Docs", Vista uses "Public". It is easy to copy and paste
what you want to share into the above folders; just my way of doing it!
In Vista's Control Panel> Network & Internet> Network & Sharing Centre, make
sure
Network Discovery: ON
File Sharing: ON
Public Folder Sharing: ON
Password Protected Sharing: OFF
