Video drivers - blue or blank screen

I get the following blue screen error during boot up after letting Vista
automatically install drivers for my Nvidia 8800GTS graphics card:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 7f
BCP1: 00000000
BCP2: 00000000
BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

Anybody know what this means? I've tried swapping out the RAM, but it
doesn't help.

Also, when I tell Windows not to install drivers automatically, and install
the new ones from Nvidia myself, I get no video input once it boots into
Vista OR XP.
