| RE: does word come with vista A computer manufacturer may include Office as part of a package when you buy a new computer but it doesn't come as part of Vista. I think it's the best offer MS has going. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and something called OneNote, which I haven't even looked into yet. -- Joey DoWop Dee Remember: It is To Laugh |

| Re: does word come with vista see if sony can offer it as an oem version preinstalled on the computer... if not look into the student version that is cheap... if not you can try openoffice that is theoretically compatible with office... although I do prefer the MS version personally www.openoffice.org "grievec" <grievec@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:555A2515-FDAA-4D49-A60C-C3A66D65567B@microsoft.com... > hi there, i own a mac so not sure about vista, my girlfriend is thinking > of > buying a new sony laptop and wants to know if microsoft office is included > or > has to be bought seperately, > > thanks. |

They are, and always have been, separate applications, that must be purchased and installed separately. Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on new computers only when the computer manufacturer chooses to offer it, and the purchaser is willing to pay extra for it. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell |

| Re: does word come with vista Hi, In addition to others' suggestions, you could also consider Office 2003 from someone who upgraded to 2007 and no longer wishes to keep it. In most cases, it works great with Vista and have all the features that majority users would need. Please do check license for student version (Office 2007 or others) as I was once advised that it is a violation of the license if it is used at a office location. I have to admit that I did not read license and just took the advise as given. Good luck. If they used an upgrade version then the original 2003 would be tied to the 2007 upgrade and could not be sold or given to someone else.
