A computer manufacturer may include Office as part of a package when you buy
a new computer but it doesn't come as part of Vista.

It's separate, but if she gets the home/student version (I can't remember
the exact name) it's pretty good value for money.

Open Office works just as well and if FREE.

Agreed. I think it's the best offer MS has going.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint and something called OneNote, which I haven't even
looked into yet.

Re: does word come with vista

see if sony can offer it as an oem version preinstalled on the computer...

if not look into the student version that is cheap...

if not you can try openoffice that is theoretically compatible with
office... although I do prefer the MS
version personally www.openoffice.org

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on new computers only when the
computer manufacturer chooses to offer it, and the purchaser is willing
to pay extra for it.

Re: does word come with vista

Hi,

In addition to others' suggestions, you could also consider Office 2003 from
someone who upgraded to 2007 and no longer wishes to keep it. In most
cases, it works great with Vista and have all the features that majority
users would need.

Please do check license for student version (Office 2007 or others) as I was
once advised that it is a violation of the license if it is used at a office
location. I have to admit that I did not read license and just took the
advise as given.

Good luck.

Depends on whether the person used an upgrade or full version of
Office 2007. If they used an upgrade version then the original 2003
would be tied to the 2007 upgrade and could not be sold or given to
someone else.

True, and thanks for the reminder as I didn't think of that.

Perahps if you only use WORD, but if you have complicated Excel
spreadsheets, and have any charts, then you will find that OO doesn't fill
the bill.
