| Vista 64 Unactivated itself Been using Visa home premium X64 for about a month now, I have a genuine oem version I bought from the store I activated it online on the first day of use, then today a window pops up telling me that it's no longer valid due to a "Hardware Change" thing is I havent made one, been installing all windows updates as usual but I have never touched any hardware since the time of install The only thing I can think of, there was a update for my motherboard (Nforce4) SATA controller on windows update, can it be that vista now thinks it's a diffrent motherboard?? Help I only have two days it's says to activate vista Regards Oliver |

| Re: Vista 64 Unactivated itself hello it was probably the controller.. vista is far more sensitive to changes compared to XP .. but this does not mean you have a problem since: You are entitled to reactivate an infinite number of times on the same computer! even if its OEM (preinstalled), and you have an infinite number of times to reactivate on different computers if you have retail, as long is you have vista on ONE computer at any given moment. So reactivate by internet now, and if it doesnt like it, reactivate by phone. | Re: Vista 64 Unactivated itself What do you mean you cannot activate via phone? When you try, what happens? | Re: Vista 64 Unactivated itself yes.. because they think that someone who is realy trying to trick microsoft wont keep calling in... but there is also another thing.. activation now calls in home very frequently.. and perhaps they will able to track pcs that use the same product key.... In the end, all they do is create irate paying customers. Great PR move, that activation foolishness. | Re: Vista 64 Unactivated itself This is actually a bug with the new drivers (May 12th) and seems to be limited to updating the sata drivers for Nforce based boards using the Silicon Image chipset for the Sata. In my case, Windows still reported has being activated, but was reporting not being Genuine. I went round and round trying to get it re-activated, but I couldn't de-activate it to re-activate it. When I tried to pass the Geniune test, it would tell me I need to Activate windows First. I finally found a way to deactivte my install., I just added another Gig of ram and I got the activation option. I re-activated Windows, it says it was happy, but still reported my version has not being Genuine. The fix was to reload the Nvidia Nforce drivers (version 15.00) from the www.Nvidia.com website "Oliver Gunnell" <Gunnell@bulldoghome.com> wrote in message news:%23bwQb9TmHHA.4188@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Been using Visa home premium X64 for about a month now, > I have a genuine oem version I bought from the store > > I activated it online on the first day of use, then today a window > pops up telling me that it's no longer valid due to a "Hardware Change" > thing is I havent made one, been installing all windows updates as usual > but I have never touched any hardware since the time of install > > The only thing I can think of, there was a update for my motherboard > (Nforce4) SATA controller > on windows update, can it be that vista now thinks it's a diffrent > motherboard?? > > Help I only have two days it's says to activate vista > > Regards > Oliver > > |

Which I don't have so much of a problem with, I just wish I could understand them a little better. |
