| Re: formatting a xp to vista pc Hi tez-- You did an upgrade to Vista from XP. You aren't posting enough detail. What do you want to accomplish? I'm fairly good at reading bet. the lines (you have to be on these groups) and I'm guessing that you are having a problem with Vista that you think is so serious that you need to format and reinstall. The truth is you don't. I know a way to get to XP from Vista upgrades, but that's not your bottom line. You want to fix Vista. Tell us what the things are that don't work and any error messages if you can and we'll tell you how to fix Vista so you need not format. | Re: formatting a xp to vista pc hi chad thanks for the reply.basically its my dads pc an he's a download freek if it says download he'll press it.so his pc is full of bugs and his antivirus is picking stuff up all the time(without pressing a button)so the only way is to format the pc.so when he got vista an asked me to install it i naturally thought it would format the system aswell.i had no idea it would only replace the old operating system with the new one.so any bugs that was in it are still there.also the antivirus that he's got(blueyonder pc guard)is not compatible with vista so i cannot uninstall it.ive tried cleanup programs uninstall programs you name it but it wont go.so he's got a vista pc with bugs(letts in trojans)and an old antivirus program that wont uninstall.when i get it running properly he's promised to stop downloading everything lol.but as i say if i format how can i put vista back on as its allready registered thanks again. | Re: formatting a xp to vista pc With Vista if you are wanting to do a clean install you just need to start the computer with the dvd in the drive. It will start the install and you will have the option to format at that time. As for registration you are allowed to uninstall and reinstall the software on the computer. If you register it enough times though it will prompt you to call Microsoft for verification.
