Licensing

Hi!

I bought a Notebook from HP that came with Windows Vista Home Premium, I'd
like to know if is possible to upgrade it to Windows Vista Bussiness.

Is that possible?? How do I procede?

Thanks all!

You cannot do an in place upgrade from VHP to Vista Business. The in place
upgrade path is to Vista Ultimate through either an an retail upgrade or an
anytime upgrade.

You can use an retail upgrade version of Vista Business but it will have to
be a clean install. VHP will be a qualifying OS for the use of the upgrade
version. Boot from the Business upgraded DVD, and then you'll have to
choose a clean install.

Re: Licensing

our net nanny does not know what HP will or will not allow.
since lap top os is special, it would be best to ask HP about upgrading.

Re: Licensing

To add a little to what Rock said.
If the computer is new, contact HP for possible return/replacement.
That path will probably be cheaper for you than buying Vista Business
Upgrade.

If that is not an option, follow Rock's suggestion.

Re: Licensing

Rock, the point is not the instalation itself.. is if I can or not buy a
upgrade from HP to Bussiness or Ultimate.

If I can, how do I do that? Directly from Microsoft, or via HP... because my
actual license is a OEM one...

Thanks for the prompty reply!

I don't know what you can or can't buy from HP. You have to talk to them.

You can buy an upgrade version of Vista Business or Ultimate from your
favorite discount software retailer. You can use the Anytime Upgrade to
move from Vista Home Premium to Ultimate. That you would get from MS.
Frankly I wouldn't bother with it, I don't like the process I would rather
get an upgrade package.

What HP offers I don't know. Also see Jupiter's response.

As I said before, it is irrelevant whether the version you want to upgrade
is OEM or retail.
