False.

Then it can do it. So, you're saying Ubuntu can do everything Windows
can do but get viruses, malware and have to jump through MS' ineffective
anti piracy hoops. Now you're starting to make some sense.

Run Visual Studio 2005, Run SQL 2000/2005, Run many games, use my Verizon
Broad Band card, provide Dual Monitor and Quad Monitor support with my
video card.... I could go on, but there is no point. Don't tell me about
Windows emulators until you try them, and I have, so don't try and BS.

While Ubuntu is good for people that only need email/browsing and limited
printing support, that's where it ends. Fedora Core 5/6 is what a typical
computer user that needs more than Simple emial and web browing, but, it
has some of the same limitations, but a lot less of them. FC is the best
Distro I've used for all around home/business functions.

Maybe they can type faster in Windows. Of course 'well' was not addressed,
only faster.

People like you deserve to run linux. You're beyond stupid if that's

The only time we would thank you is if you left and never came back.

Ubuntu is (besides being a sub-Saharan African word) a Linux
distribution. You probably like it because you get it for free. It
wouldn't surprise me to find pirated music and videos on the computer of
such a person.

Compared to Vista, all Linux desktops, be they KDE, Gnome, etc., are far
less functional.

Strip away the desktop and you have a pretty stable OS that is great for
servers. Since it is pretty much a UNIX wannabe, that is not surprising.

Now if you want to play with applications that were cobbled together by
some geek in his garage, that's fine. But why don't you tell folks
about Linux dependecies hell when you upgrade one program and find a
component used by three other programs has been changed so now they
don't work.

Yes, Linux is stable. It rarely crashes on its own, but why don't you
tell people about what happens when some piece of crapware goes berserk
and forces you to use the reset button.

True, there aren't many Linux viruses in the wild, but why don't you
tell people just how many root kits there are?

Better yet, whay don't you just leave?

I'm surprised any purist like you would bother running open source software.
Two-faced? Why aren't you running Outlook Express or is it Mail now? Your
email program was probably cobbled together in someone's garage. BTW, why
the fsck are you signing on UseNet?

I have no problem with open source software when it comes to encryption
software. I trusted the original PGP before it was acquired by NAI and
then its current owner. When they tried to turn it into a subscription
service, I realized they could not be relied upon.

With OpenPGP, the source can be examined to determine there are no flaws
or back doors.I would be using Windows Mail, but to get OpenPGP support,
I would have to use gpgrelay, which is another level complexity which
has security implications. It also had fewer filtering options that I
like to use to control spam. That said, the 64 bit version is lightning
fast and I wish I could have used it.

You refer to me as a purist, but you misunderstand. I use what works
best to me and have no problem if someone wants to use something else.
What I do object to is people cluttering up newsgroups with stuff that
has nothing to do with the purpose of the newsgroup. When I find
someone on a Windows NG hyping another OS, I will twist their tails as
hard as I possible can. I don't go to Linux NGs to taunt those who are
there.

Why I sign NG messages is my eccentricity. And, BTW, this is a Windows
group. People are unlikely to know what fsck means. ;-)

Yeah but then you've still got to purchase Adobe, Corel, Ulead, Quark,
Nuance, etc and why pay all that money to run VPC?
Anyway, I don't understand the economics behind saving a few quid and
jeopardizing thousands? :-)

And the sad thing is that the apps my still not run properly in a
"virtual" windows session. Even CrossOver cautions that not all windows
apps will run, and that's true.

WRONG! Ubuntu has free open source alternatives for just about ALL software
that people have ever run under Windows. And in most cases, the free
software alternatives do everything their commercial counterparts can do!
