Re: The great ubuntu experiment...

I have been back so many times I cant remember.. but each time I leave
again!

Linux is not good enough yet for desktop use the way I use computers at
least!

Been trying linux for many years hoping to find that magic distro that will
be as good as windows...

BUT NO LUCK....

PS when I say as good as windows I mean XP, not vista....

vista is a pile of crap that should be abolished.

You and nearly every other new Ubuntu convert has been running various
versions of Windows for years. Believe me, you aren't unique. I started
using Windows with version 1.0. I used every version but ME up until XP.
During that period of time, I visited Linux on a number of occasions. It
was neat to play with, but just not there yet for the desktop. Finally,
about 4 years ago, a version of Mandrake came out that started to show
promise. I ran Mandrake and dual booted with XP. When XP finally started to
get old and the security model looked like it was hopeless and Linux was
more and more tuned for desktop use, I finally dropped XP completely.
Haven't looked back. Linux has served me VERY well. My system has been
incredibly stable. I don't worry about malware. My older hardware works so
well that I haven't felt any need to upgrade it (like I was doing every few
years in the past when Windows was the only show in town for a desktop).
Linux just works and continues to work and the more I've learned about the
logic behind a *NIX system like this, the more I've come to appreciate the
power it offers. Windows friends who see what I've done here with Linux are
blown away. I've helped many of them move on to Linux and none have
regretted it and they go on to turn on their friends to the benefits of
Linux. There is no big money marketing behind Linux. It's adoption has been
through word of mouth and slowly but surely, more and more people are
gravitating over to Linux. Whether you or anyone else does, I really
couldn't care less. But for those looking for an alternative to Windows,
I'm quite prepared to suggest such an alternative and dispel the FUD that
some around here raise against Linux.

BTW, I'm glad to hear (really) that Vista is working well for you. Continue
to enjoy it.

Love and Kisses,
Doris

You are nothing but a linux loser troll. You come to this MS ng looking
to cause a controversy by insulting MS and everyone who chooses to use
their products. Whereas you have no MS ware at all (by your own
admission) and, as evidenced by your juvenile postings, really and truly
hate all things MS.
You won't convert one person to linux by using the demeanor you've shown
in this ng.
You come off as an incredibly despicable humane being not worthy of
believing for one second.
Why you are here is fully answered by your hate filled postings of
others who chose to use MS products.
You obviously have no marketing acumen or skills at all. In fact, I
doubt you could convert one person to liux based on your postings in
this ng.
You’re good example of a bad example. Other than that, you come off as
totally worthless.
Frank

My experience with Ubuntu is the same, it's like using a toy after
running AIX, Unix, etc... If you want one with full features, use a stand-
alone drive for your testing, don't dual boot, download the Multiple ISO
images for Fedora Core 6 and you'll find about everything you need if you
are a SOHO or business user. It's still not where XP is yet, but it's
leaps and bounds ahead of Ubuntu. Ubuntu is for people that can't make
other Linux versions run.

With Vista, there's not much to talk about. It's the past. With Ubuntu,
there are exciting things to talk about. It's the future.

MANY ripped off Vista users are looking for an alternative and we are
being kind enough to offer one. You should thank us.

What can XP or Vista do that Ubuntu can't do?
