| Vista and IOGear Router issues I have an IOGEAR BOSS (Broadband Office Storage Server) 200GB Model # GNS1000200 Router/NAS Since upgrading to Vista I am unable to acess the router in may ways, first and foremost is the web interface to configure the rought. When I try to pu it up via IE (also tried Firefox) @ http://192.168.2.1, thats the routers IP. I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". However if I try to acces my router from an XP pc, while the interface is still up and I try again with the Vista pc I get some different error, Something about already being in use by another user. The "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error page loads instantly, unlike if I entered a bad domain or IP that it has to search for. There is no delay from press the enter key and getting that error. I've been googling my butt off trying to resolve this and the only one article I found to get around this is to disable the admin password. However this router does not allow it. The password is required. Is this an IE7 bug? A vista bug? A combination of Vista and IE7? Are one point when I clicked the "Diagnose Connection Problems" link I saw something about a 403 permission denied.... It seems vista just refuses to open the Login dialog box.... I also have other various issues with this router, for example it have an FTP built into it and the only way to access the FTP is via IE ftp://192.168.2.1, I cannot seem to connect from any other normal FTP app like CuteFTP or SmartFTP though they work for other FTP sites. Just not to my router. |

Can't access it through 192.168.2.1. Please let me know if you have found a fix to this problem. We have tried with multiple PCs running on xp. -- 3DMojoMan Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

| Re: Vista and IOGear Router issues I just acquired an older BOSS unit and was having the same problem not being able to connect to the web interface with the IP address 192.168.2.1. Many forum guests assume the IP is incorrect, but this is the right IP address for the BOSS under factory settings. I had internet access through the router and could connect to the shared network folder, just no access to the management interface. After struggling to connect for weeks, I emailed IOGear support to see if they had any insight. After 2 days, I received an email stating that I needed Internet Explorer 5 or newer, or I could try the Opera browser. Well I have WinXP on my computer, so I am not going to downgrade to IE5..so I installed the latest Opera browser. Sadly, it did not work. Then I searched for older Opera versions and tried installing Opera v6.06. I figured by using an older one, it might be more similar to IE v5. Sure enough, it works! So the folks at IOGear should not say IE5 "or newer..." they should say that it only works on older browsers like IE5 or Opera v6. Hope that helps someone else out there, I was thinking about tossing mine til I figured that out. -- apicton Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |
