nVidia Driver Update

There's a driver update available for (some?) nVidia graphics cards, it
shows up as 'optional' so you may need to tell it to down-load if you want
it.

It still benchmarks 20% slower than XP on my machine and it is still
locked to 60fps for the Quake Timedemo. Hopefully there will be a better
one along eventually.

Re: nVidia Driver Update

I got all excited (well, not THAT way) when I saw your msg. The Nvidia
driver released with Vista RTM 6000 is, I think, er, buggy ...

But, it's newer than the 96.85 driver from October that is still on the
Nvidia web site.

What did I miss? What card received an update and where is it, please?

P.S. Nvidia GeForce 7300 here, at least for the moment :-}

Sorry if I got you excited for nothing :-)

Mine is a 6600GT and the driver came down with Windows update, I couldn't
see it on nVidia's site. The original was version 7.14.10.9686 the update
is 7.15.10.9746.

Re: nVidia Driver Update

Someday I will understand Windows Update. Today is not that day.

The first thing I did when I saw your msg was run WU. Nothing.

I happened to run it again an hour ago and -- boink (lol) -- the Nvidia
driver to which you refer. I've attached a capture of the details and the
pic will show up at the end of this msg.

BTW, I tried to have WU tell me more about the update. Ahem:

"Coming Soon
Thank you for using Windows Update. The More information feature is not
available yet. We apologize for any inconvenience."

Well, you are welcome, MS. Not inconvenient. Just feels sort of beta-ish,
doesn't it? ;-)

Re: nVidia Driver Update

Well, at least my monitor hasn't exploded yet. LOL

Nvidia's latest and greatest actually brought my scores DOWN on WEI from
3.1/2.5 to 3.1/2.4 (GeForce 7300 LE). More importantly, it feels even more
sluggish.

HP cheaped out on the video card. OK, nevermind -- I cheaped out on the PC
:-} But, all the other scores are 5.0 and up with CPU at 5.0, HD at 5.4 and
mem at 5.9.

Can anyone spell ATI? <wink>

RE: nVidia Vista driver update

Just downloaded the update myself (Laptop with 7600 Go here). No noticable changes for me. Then again, I don't do any gaming on this thing anyway :P

Just after updating there was some sort of bug though, making the Power and Lock buttons in the start menu 100% see-though. It's gone now.

I have to say, I'm disappointed in nVidia for not having any decent Vista drivers out yet. Even if consumers can't actually get Vista yet. There are plenty of businesses out there that need the advanced capabilities of their graphics card, capabilities the WDDM-driver isn't offering.
