| iTunes is worthless in Vista RC2. Has anyone else noticed that, or is it just me? I can't get it to do much of anything but lock up all the time. I have to use Task Manager to kill it. None of the menus will work at all and they get this weird whiteout over some of them. It's totally useless. If anyone has it working, I'd love to hear about it. If not, let's hope Apple is ready come January 30. I've got a DVD filled with a backup of all my ITMS purchases. I don't own an iPod, so that's not an issue. I'd just like to be able to play the songs I've bought and perhaps buy more at some point. |

| Re: iTunes is worthless in Vista RC2. I am running iTunes 7.0.2.16 on Vista 32 RTM. It sort of runs but I am having the following problems: 1. If I leave it opened over night I end up with a C++ runtime error message box on top of the iTunes screen. When I close the C++ runtime screen iTunes also closes. I don't seem to lose any data, but it is definitely not as stable as it was on the same machine with XP Pro. 2. I have a subscription to Audible.Com for audio books that I load into my iPod 60 and the DRM activation from Audible.Com will not remain activated. It asks to be reactivated each time a new book or newspaper is downloaded. It did not do that with XP Pro. 3. The iPod was offered an upgrade from version 1.2 to 1.2.1. I tried to do the update a few dozen times and it failed every time under VISTA. It updated the first time on my XP Pro system using the same sync cable. 4. Every time I plug the iPod into the USB I get an error "Do you want to scan and fix G:? which is the drive letter assigned to the 60G disk in the iPOD that the system sees as a USD disk. I do not get that message on the same iPOD when I plug it into my XP Pro system. I have tried to run the repair that is offers but that fails. 5. I have tried to run the iPod restore and it fails every time. It works fine for the same iPod on the XP PRO system. It does sync my music, pictures, and podcasts fine but the 5 problems above reduce the functionality and reliability of the whole iTunes and iPod experience. As I understand it the ZUNE works fine on XP and has problems on VISTA also so it is probably not a trick in VISTA to give ZUNE an advantage. It would have looked/sounded fine without it. Just FYI |

| Re: iTunes is worthless in Vista RC2. I can't resist: (1) You expect Microsoft to make life easy for Apple? Show me a picture of Bill Gates kissing Steve Jobs on the lips and I'll remind you of scenes from the Godfather. :) (2) Saying Itunes is worthless under Vista RC2 implies (via negative pregnant for you lawyers and logic professors) that Itunes is worthwhile under some other operating system. It is? ROFL OK. I've had my fun. As someone else informed you, MS apparently gave in and fixed it in the RTM. I'm running RTM 6000 on two systems here but, as you can see from the above, do not love Itunes enough (to put it mildly) to install it for the sake of confirming that it works. | Re: iTunes works great in Ivista. LOL I thought Mr. Boucher was a bit funny. I don't expect those kissing pictures to be circulated, but they might be obtainable on Ebay if you have enough cash. I haven't had any problems with the Ipod on any build of Vista including RC2 and all the subsequent builds that weren't internal builds at Red Man Wahshington and Redwimins Washington with Seattle. I gues I could google for it, but I'll take your words if Ipod working was a known issue with some builds of Vista for some people but none of the people with both Vista and Ipods I know have had any problem with them since the birth of the little Vista beta last July 2005.. If you want to post your specific Ipod issues here I'm sure some of us will be glad to fix them since lol what could be more appropriate. We could probably even lobby for you to get this group named IVista like the IWoz book I started reading next to the book about Intel's Andy Grove. I passed by a big Zune display today and it said "The Social is here." I was lookin' around for the ice cream or the drinks. It reminded me of how Zune got flayed in the major media for all the goofey things it does and doesn't do. I seriously wonder if your issues that you didn't define specifically aren't Ipod issues that could easily be fixed instead of IVista issues which is the official name for Ipod with Vista. I ran into no problems running iTunes in newly installed Vista Premium, as Andre said make sure you download the newest version (7.1.1.5) from apple for it has some bug fixes in it concerning iTunes and Vista.
