Vista Business Edition

All:

I just installed a copy of Vista Business as an upgrade to Windows XP (SP's
and all patches installed). Following the instructions in the task list, I
attempted to install the latest updates via the Windows Update and received
the following error: "Windows could not search for new updates. Code
80244019".

Has anyone else experienced the error. I attempted to apply several fixes
the "Get Help" links recommended with no luck.

A search on "Code 80244019" on microsoft.com gets:

Hi, Tim
My RC2 couldn't search for updates either. Turned out it was scheduled to
get updates at 3 AM (default time) when the PC was turned off. Changed it to
7AM and it imediately got the updates. This was at 8 am.
Might want to check this out.

RE: Vista Business Edition

I have the same problem and this is the only bit of info I have found. I am
on a Vista Business WS on a Win2003 network that is running WSUS. Although I
have found nothing to confirm this, I think the WSUS GP may have something to
do with this.

Will update you if I have any breakthroughs.

RE: Vista Business Edition

You were partially correct. Windows Vista is set by default to update from
the local network. This blocks the local user from making changes to the
update process. Once we removed the network profile and allowed local chages
I was able to make the time change which allowed the automatic updates to
occur.
