I'm the sole user & administrator on my laptop with Vista Home. I see
folders under my name/documents/ but it denies me access. I've checked in
User Accounts & it shows I'm Administrator.
What gives?

Answer copied from my previous answer to an almost identical question in
administration_accounts_password group

A number of the folders you are concerned about are not actually real
folders - but links (reparse points) to provide backward compatibility for
older applications now that the locations of certain folders have been moved
such as Users is the new replacement for Documents and Settings and so on.
They are hidden so you do not need to see them and confuse yourself about
them (as you have done so).
As they are links to the real locations ,AV software, backup software etc
will use them if it is legacy software that is not aware of the new
locations or knows how to make the appropriate calls to find them.

Go into your Documents (C:\Users\<username>\Documents) folder in an
administrative command prompt and run dir /a and you will see the ones
that are real folders and the ones that are other things and what they point
to
...."

I understand what your saying but my question came about cause I attempted
to save attachments to an Email I received as I would have in XP but could
not, so where do I save attachments to now?, IE; pictures, etc.?

Just like in XP, you can save your attachments any place you want...it's up
to you. The default folder (unless you changed it...which you can) is
"Documents" (located in your login space). You can create all the folders
you want under that into which you can save your attachments. It sounds like
from your original post that you manually browsed to the old "My Documents"
folder. You can no longer use that folder (actually, it's not a folder
anymore), as Mike pointed out. You'll just have to get used to the new
folder location.

I followed the instructions in Mike's post. The "folders" for My Videos,
Pictures and Music in the Documents folder under my username are identified
as "junctions." I cannot open them and access is denied me. I am the
administrator. Will I ever be able to access them or is there something I
need to do to gain the right to access these "junctions."? What are they,
anyway? Thanks.

"Ownership" of a file in Vista. I followed it and it worked like a charm, so

I noticed a similar problem when looking for the "All Users" folder; I wish
to remove a shortcut that I expected to find in the All Users folder, but
cannot access that folder, even as the administrator.

Now that I understand what Vista has done with the legacy folders left over
after my upgrade from XP, where would I find shortcuts that would have gone
into the "All Users" folder, so that the application starts no matter who
logs in? I've looked in Public Desktop, its not there. I'm trying to remove
an application that appears on the System Tray.
