Windows update for X-Fi Audio

Well, I have my audio set up and working in 5.1 sound via the X-Fi mixer.

I see that windows has a update form my card, so I update.
Restart machine and, the mixer is there but different, not as many options,
go to select speakers in the dropdown list, nothing, blank.
Only get sound out of 2 speakers, can't change anything.

Do a system restore and everything works.

Is this only me that has seen this?
Why did the mixer change.

Don't let Microsoft update your sound and video drivers. Get the latest
drivers from the manufacturer instead.

Re: Windows update for X-Fi Audio

I have had nothing but trouble with my Xtreme card in Vista 32.
I have downloaded creative's drivers for the card and all I get is static.
It doesn't matter what I try static is all I get.
After installing the software I look in device manager and all it has
installed is the WDM driver and nothing else.
On my other drive I'm running XP Pro 64 bit without a problem in the world
so you can imagine my frustration.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated
