Vista causing random files to freeze up...please help!

I havent had a single problem with Vista until now. The only thing that goes
wrong is every other day or so, a file will lock up, or freeze up in windows
explorer. it acts as if it will open (spinning circle appears) but then thats
it! it wont let me open, erase, copy, or move the file. the only way i can
save it is if i send the file to a compressed folder then take that off my
computer and open it on another computer. someone please help! these files
are my work files and i need to be able to access them to get my bills paid!
any help is greatly appreciated. i have updated everything and it still
happens. but most of the files i work with are fine. its a random thing and i
dont want to go back to XP but its causing me to lose work, time, and
patience. thanks ahead of time for any and all support!!!

Sincerely,
Brian Andresen

well the problem im having is when i click to open it, it freezes. it doesnt
even let me try to copy or open, or even get to the window that says
"calculating time remaining", also its just with my computer, no server or
network, and its more than copy. but at this point im willing to try anything
so i will give it a shot when i get home later today. thanks and if theres
anything else i can do...please let me know.

Do you have an Nvidia graphics card? There were a number of posts in
this and the Vista hardware group suggesting that the latest Nvidia
drivers are causing similar issues. Just a thought.

Re: Vista causing random files to freeze up...please help!

well...i tried the hot fix...that didnt work. i do have an Nvidia card but i
havent installed any updates for that in a while. so are you saying to update
it? or not to update it? i do appreciate all the support but if i cant get
this to work i need to change the question to "will microsoft allow me to go
back to xp and give me a refund?" :) i wish i didnt have to but as of now, my
job isnt getting done and thats the most important thing. im hoping someone
will know how to solve this problem before i lose my job or give up and
switch back to xp. thanks everyone!

Re: Vista causing random files to freeze up...please help!

the hot fix didnt work and i have the latest nvidia updates installed. other
users have said as long as the updates are current it should run ok. but my
problem is getting worse. now i cant even rename some files...or open random
folders or files. i think i need to give up. my job depends on this OS
working properly and im having problems i cant ignore or work around. any
last ideas before i pull the plug and go back to XP??? i wish i didnt have to
but now its cutting into my income. thank you all for the support.
