Many are not. It is primarily intended to speed up systems that have marginal amounts of RAM. Visit http://google.com and into the search box type READYBOOST. |

| Re: Readyboost...? Hi Scotty, It's basically using a USB thumb drive for memory caching. Pieces of code are stored there for faster accessing when needed by the system. These can be bits of code from recently used programs and data, or from bits that the system is projecting you will want. It's slower than physical ram, but the access time is higher than that of the hard drive (paging file) due to the decrease in time needed to seek the data (a hard drive is actually faster in raw read/write speed, it's the difference in seek time). -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Scottyİ" <wapbam@boogie.com> wrote in message news:ebqv3%23QhHHA.1216@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Daft question I know but what (in simple terms plz) is readyboost?? > I have a 2 gig pen drive and seen a few posts mention this but what are > the benefits of readyboost and if it makes a difference then plz can > someone tell me how to sort/use it. > TIA > -- > Scottyİ |

| Re: Readyboost...? Ready boost, contrary to what many think, is not a replacement for RAM. It acts as a super fast pagefile - in addition to the pagefile on your hard drive. But, if you are low on RAM (less that 2 gig) ReadyBoost can help you - depending upon what programs you are running. I would still recommend additional RAM in lieu of ReadyBoost. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!
