It is every bit as good and in many respects superior. If you insist on paying for your software then SUN will be glad to sell you essentially the same software for about $65/seat rather than $350/seat. I did scientific software support and development for DOD for 30 years. I did it on RSX, I did it on VAX/VMS, I did it on Ultrix, and I did it on Linux. I did NOT do it on MS for one simple reason. MS was not good enough. > > I know... I've looked and been looking for years. Over 80% of what > software I use for video editing has nothing close to it on the Linux > platform. I'm not claiming that Linux is superior for everything and the solution for everyone. 99% of computer users are not doing professional video editing. |

To get a printer, scanner and fax working is just a matter of buying the hardware and installing the software provided with Ubuntu. Frankly, I just haven't gotten around to doing it. I can do everything else I need with it but, like any new OS, it's a continually learning experience. How these boys think they won some kind of debating brownie point with this only reveals their utter desperation due to their frustration with the fact that Linux is free; can be installed on multiple computers and has no activation/genuine/DRM hoops to jump through. What really gets them, though, is that people who read this just might throw up their hands due to their frustration with Windows and visit www.ubuntu.com and that their repair tech future may be seriously jeopardized by people switching to an OS with real security on the Net. Linux apps don't try to be Windows apps you fscking idiot. They are Linux apps and run just fine, thank you. A few examples are Amarok, which beats anything in the Windoze world and K3b, which is a great DVD/CD burning app. There are many many more such apps. And they don't limit ones use of his/her computer at all. In fact, they enhance both the user experience and the power one can get from ones computer. The "professional" Hollywood studios use Linux to create their magic. Funny that a "professional" like you can't get away from Windoze to do your video editing tasks. You sure are lame.
