Remote Assistance to Vista

When I use my XP machine to offer remote assistance to a Vista machine I get
"Automation server can't create object"

Yes it is enabled. If Vista desn't start playing nice with remote
assistance and XP it won't get installed on any of our systems for years.

Re: Remote Assistance to Vista

Have you considered Remote Desktop? Obviously this isn't as easy to get onto
your clients' PCs with, but if you can get them to open the necessary ports
on their router you can do it into Vista/XP.

I appreciate these are not solutions, rather workarounds, but I don't know
what else there is to say about it.

What about the free VirtualPC 2007? Couldn't that be a solution?

Re: Remote Assistance to Vista

It should enable the helper to remote into an XP to give assistance from a
Vista machine.

Re: Remote Assistance to Vista

What?
This is not a port/router issue. I can offer remote assistance to XP
machines fine. Just not Vista.

Re: Remote Assistance to Vista

On the Vista machines, go to Control Panel\System and Maintenance\System, on
the left is Remote Settings. Check the box to allow remote assistance
connections to this computer. Remote desktop permissions are also there.
The Vista machines will need the exceptions checked in the firewall settings
too.

This has been done already. no go. Any other ideas?

Are there others that can offer remote assistance from XP to Vista and vice
versa?

Re: Remote Assistance to Vista

Hi there well it's quite simple, Longhorn and Vista both have a new
authentication method for terminal service connections called *Network
Level Authentication,* as you can read here
'_http://www.tweakvista.eu/show_tweak.php?tweak=114_'
just upgrade your XP SP2 box to the new RDP service, and off you
go...

Just tested it and it works fine here :)

RE: Remote Assistance to Vista

We get the same error. It is very hard to consider adopting Vista when SMS
Remote Control *AND* Remote Assistance do not work. Does Microsoft want
corporate users to use VNC or other open source alternatives?

I'd appreciate a response about this, more and more searches are returning
back this "Automation server can't create object". I do have the latest RDP
client installed.

Re: Remote Assistance to Vista

This is nice, however it does not solve the "Automation server object"...
issue.
