| Stick with XP, Vista is not ready for prime time yet Vista simply lacks the compatibility with previous Windows versions to make it worthwhile. Help files, drivers, DOS-based software do not work at all like with XP (if they work at all). When you are paying employees to learn the quirks of Vista you are spending (most likely) thousands of $$$ while people fumble with computers instead of working on your business. Even the "search" function has been modified in Vista so that it is nearly impossible to use it like one did with XP (Apple had a well-performing search function 10 years before Microsoft anyway). I'm reverting my company back to XP since I'm tired of paying wages to my folks while they stumble at making Vista do what they need. Not to mention me. I'm really pissed off about Vista on my own desktop and laptop. Vista is forcing users to buy *NEW* Microsoft products just to get the functionality back that they enjoyed with recent versions of Excel, Word and the myriad of other programs (non-Microsoft) you depend on every day. Shame on Bill Gates for selling a trap to consumers so that they are snared into updating all their s/w even if the previous software is only 6 months old. Back to XP. It works just fine. |

If you ask me you should pay another thousand dollars just for making a bad business choice. Shame on Bill Gates for forcing you to upgrade your business computers all at once. SHAME BILL SHAME ON YOU!!! Is it just me or am I the only one who thinks it might be a wise business choice to upgrade just one computer in your office to Vista to see how it functions with all your existing software and communicates with your network? Then once you see everything works the way you expect then to start switching over workstations one at a time as your employees become more familiar with the new OS. |

However I wouldn't even upgrade one machine without testing it first on a test machine. Once that test passes then upgrade one machine and go from there. I have 5 PRIME TIME Vista machines amongst 300+ machines. Prime time and working well. However we have to wait on the other machines until our main ERP package gets up to speed and more drivers are released. In other words, had I upgraded everyone.....HOLY CRAP I would have been in a world of hurt. However, that's not Vista's or MS's problem. That would have been an idiot IT problem and I mostly likely would have been fired. When we do roll out we'll re-install 10 machines at a time or not more then 50% of a department at a time. One department at a time. |

They must come from your hardware/software manufacturer, not MS and they've had 5 yrs to develop them. Still using some DOS programs, huh? If they worked in XP they'll probably work in Vista using compatibility mode. Have you heard of that method of installing legacy software? When you are paying > employees to learn the quirks of Vista you are spending (most likely) > thousands of $$$ while people fumble with computers instead of working > on your business. > That's really the meat of your complaint isn't it? Location of things have changed and we're all just a little uncomfortable, unsure and rather frustrated. > Even the "search" function has been modified in Vista so that it is > nearly impossible to use it like one did with XP (Apple had a > well-performing search function 10 years before Microsoft anyway). Well, again, Vista is not an upgraded XP. It's a whole new ball game for us to get to know. Did you know that before you purchased Vista? I'm reverting my company back to XP since I'm tired of paying wages to my > folks while they stumble at making Vista do what they need. > > Not to mention me. Vista is forcing users to buy *NEW* Microsoft products just > to get the functionality back that they enjoyed with recent versions of > Excel, Word and the myriad of other programs (non-Microsoft) you depend > on every day. Really? Now I think you're "exaggerating" maybe just a little bit. What made you think you could blow that one by a group of seasoned Vista and MS software users in this ng, huh? You actually think Excel works differently in XP than it does in Vista? You think Office XP, 2003 and 2007 work differently in Vista than in XP? They don't and all of them work in Vista. I personally have software from the mid-nineties that works perfectly in Vista. > Shame on Bill Gates for selling a trap to consumers so that they are > snared into updating all their s/w even if the previous software is only > 6 months old. Shame on you for not knowing that Vista was different and has a learning curve you we're not prepared for. And please, don't ever post that "6 months crap" in this ng again. You've made a big enough fool out of yourself already. BTW, if you really are looking for help, just post one specific problem at a time and everyone here will be glad to help you if we can. Obviously, by the tone and demeanor of this post, help was something you were not seeking. Frank |

| Re: Stick with XP, Vista is not ready for prime time yet It's a common ploy for trolls to attempt to stir argument by posting something like that. You'll notice in a perusal of other of his posts that the OP never responds to any of the rebuttals, he just posts more rants. OP is also using Forte Agent for posting, so it is impossible to determine if he's actually used or using Vista. By the inaccurate statements he has made thus far, it is quite likely that he is just making things up or going from heresay. This is done solely with the intention of creating contention, not from any statement of fact. The best solution is to just ignore trolls, as every response - even those that are not geared towards the argument - just serves to encourage them to continue. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "norm" <noone@afakeddomain.net> wrote in message news:ubeKuCJhHHA.1244@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Richard Urban wrote: >> Prove to me that you use windows, and have experienced Vista first hand, >> and I may give a bit more weight to your comments. >> >> Until then you are just another Linux troll. >> > Why should the op have to prove windows use and/or vista experience to you > in particular?
