| Microsoft Office 2003 compatibility - Specifically - Access 2003! We had to purchase a new computer due to lightning hitting our office. The only one we could find that met our requirements has the Vista OS. We are using a peer to peer network via a hub system and the boss won't let us get a server. We use a custom designed database in Access 2003 with the back end of the database on my computer and front end on each computer. I need to know how compatible Vista is with Access 2003- everything I've found has referred to Word and Excell. Any suggestions/recommendations? We can't update the rest of our computers until next year (unless we get hit by lightning again). I did find a good link on how to set up the peer to peer between her Vista and our XP systems thanks to Tek-Tips Forums (insert Recommendation for them here - they are great!). |

I had to re-write a few of my Access Modules (2003) because of subtle quirks which weren't always obvious. My issues were not only limited to Office and Vista but generally between other applications and systems. It took a week just to get my Vista box working between issues with my router and SBS 2003 server. My recommendation is spend a few extra dollars and buy a copy of XP for the new computer. If Vista will run on it so will XP. Hold onto your license of Vista and after a year or two when MS and other vendors have work out all of their issues with older apps, upgrade the computer. |

| Re: Microsoft Office 2003 compatibility - Specifically - Access 20 Thanks for the quick Reply!! We are planning to upgrade all of the comps to Vista eventually along with office 2007..and I will be completely reprogramming/upgrading the databases at that time (the databases need to be upgraded anyway - I've been planning on doing some revamping to their layout - I usually do about once every other year just to clean up any coding problems that have gotten into them while in use!). heh..the databases were originally designed in Access 2.0..so that tells you how long I've been "smoothing out the kinks" in them. I end up "writing on the fly" a lot of stuff as we need it, so every two years I try to go in and merge code from behind forms/reports into general modules and generally try to just clean it up..Doesn't really make much difference if I just upgrade to a new version at the same time..I just get me a new reference book to look up how to handle the things I don't know how to do..and refer to the web for hints and tips... I love sites like this..and Tek Tips... I will take your advice into account...We will most likely wait as long as we can..
