Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand

LOL nobody wants vista.. lol

http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-6177619.html

As I predicted.. yes I did... :-) People just want the best OS ever
designed! >>XP

again dedicated to all ya nice cool vista fans.....

Dell is bringing XP back.

Amid significant customer demand, the computer maker said on Thursday that
it has returned to offering the older Windows version as an option on some
of its consumer PCs.

Like most computer makers, Dell switched nearly entirely to Vista-based
systems following Microsoft's mainstream launch of the operating system in
January. However, the company said its customers have been asking for XP as
part of its IdeaStorm project, which asks customers to help the company come
up with product ideas.

"We heard you loud and clear on bringing the Windows XP option back to our
Dell consumer PC offerings," Dell said on its Ideas in Action page. Users
get to vote on various suggestions, and the notion of bringing back XP got
10,000 "points," making it among the most popular requests but well below
top picks such as adding Linux or OpenOffice.org to its PCs.

Windows XP systems became scarce, but not impossible to find, after Vista
arrived. For example, Hewlett-Packard said it would continue selling XP on
some machines aimed at small and midsize businesses, while CompUSA still
stocks a couple of business-oriented XP systems in its retail stores. Lenovo
has also continued shipping XP on many of its business systems.

Starting immediately, Dell said, it is adding XP Home

RE: Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand

I paid full price for my vista ultimate and my xp pro and given the choice I
think xp Pro is the better work orientated OS, and yes the best of the OS's
thus far Microsoft has put forth. (I do hate the new IE however in that it's
so busy protecting itself or me that I never get anything accomplished
without serious frustration. Firefox is an easier product and I don't have
the constant blocks on active x's or pics or .......
click heres or did you see the bar above....yatta yatta yatta blah blah blah.
Linux is looking better all the time. LOL

I wonder how that swell of consumer demand might compare with the one for
Linux and other OSS solutions?

Hey capin' crunch if you actually read the article all he is doing is to
continue to offer XP Home on a limited basis.
Vista is the future even if you refuse to be beamed up!

Back in January I wrote this comment below, which can be found at:

Too bad I didn't take my own advice. I could have retired -- if I already
wasn't retired. :>

I love it when people who are not competent to run something, blame the
product rather than their own inadequacies..

I love it when an operating system maker cannot hire people to write
software and translate that to machine language.

You are welcome to your gleefulness and, of course, your opinion. You'll get
no trouble from me on those counts. However, if you truly believe that Vista
will not become main stream, you're kidding yourself.

Tooting one's own horn is almost always rooted in self esteem issues. Just

You must be doing something wrong. Vista Ultimate runs great here...4600 x2,
2 GB RAM.

Vista must be really sinking sales. The only people that have told me
that they liked Vista were the ones on this newsgroup. Everyone else
that I speak with wants to dump Vista and put XP or Linux on their
computers.

And I love it when people blame their own incompetence on others. I run
Vista Ultimate x64 with an AMD Athlon x2 4600+. It runs just fine. If you
can't duplicate that, then the problem is with you, and not Vista. Spread
your FUD somewhere else, please.

Your observation probably says more about your circle of friends than it
does about Vista.

Re: Dell is bringing XP back. Amid significant customer demand

I am running Windows XP X64 professional on a 4x 2.6 ghz core desktop system
with 4 GB ram

my laptop is a 2 x 1.6 GhZ core with 2 GB ram running Vista Home premium.

I must admit my feeling is that my laptop sometimes feels perkier than my
desktop, and sometime the reverse. However the times my desktop feels
really superior is when using my 3D software that utilises all 4 cores .
The basic OS feels no better for either of them

My only concern with Vista is that like all steps in the Windows family, it
tries to lock down advanced users from tweaking their system to get better
performace for their particular use (though i understand this also makes it
easier for non techie users). I come from pre-dos days, and I like to have
full control over my system configuration, not using 'wizards' to do rough
guess at how best i want it to run.

I am also not so keen that much of the power of my pc is used to run DRM kit
that I have no interest in, as I use a 40 Inch LCD TV to watch my DVDs, not
a laptop which to me is a tool to do some work away from the house :-)

And just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons here, though i don't say LINUX
is for everyone (cos you still need to know too much about your hardware and
techie stuff for casual home users), my Umbuntu LINUX runs in a way that
makes Windows feel like its running on a 286 ;-)

I also run Vista Ultimate x64 on a AMD Athlon x2 4600+, with 3 GB 533 mz of
Ram, and a ATI Radeon 1900 XT 512 MB PCI Express and it runs fine. But to
me the expense of the OS is not worth the install. Having changed OS many
times since my first computer in 1981 ( original Apple II ) through Dos 6.2,
Win 3.1, win 95, win 98SE, XP Home, XP Pro, and now Vista, I am sure happy
that I set up my PC to dual-boot XP Pro and Vista. In Vista I was forced to
turn off all new security measures since I don't care for Microsoft making
such decisions for me. In over 20 years of having an internet connection I
have never received a rouge program installed on any of currently operating
5 systems, or any of my retired systems. The new eye candy of the Vista
system does not impress me as I usually set up my desktop in manner that I
prefer, with no themes. My business PC will continue to run XP Pro. But
because you are happy does not mean others should not express their opinion
on Vista. After all this is a news group.

you have internet before it was invented? I guess it you were alone there...
lol

Perhaps you are talking about the same type of technology the flintstones
had..
you know cards from wood and rock that you have to use your feet to move,
and record players that have birds beaks to play instread of a needle.
